Old Raspy. Lots of flavor, a tad bitter for my taste but I like it.

Unrelated, but cool mug.

Picked that up from WL's tasting room 10-12 years ago. Don't know if they have the place anymore, but you could sample several of their test batches and see how the various yeasts produce different beers with the same grain bills and hops.

I have fam in San Diego. Must check it out next trip there.

I drank them often in my youth up in wrigleyville and seem to remember old style being more amberish like a yuengling. I picked some up recently and now it's a standard yellow American lager. Am I misremembering?

It's been maybe 40 years or more since I've had Odd Style. Don't recall if it was amber or not as I wasn't much of a beer geek back then. I did think it was a good bang for the buck, as it was cheaper than BMC, and was at least as good, probably better. We would sometimes drink Special Export, another Heileman brew.

No idea if today's Old Style bears any resemblance to the brew back then, as the brewery has changed hands a number of times.

This Oktoberfest season is upon us and I’ve stocked up with many Marzen, Festbier and Oktoberfest-type beers as I’ve done a number of times here now. I’m really getting excited – so what’s the holdup already? Well, truth is, on my recent Florida trip I had the great opportunity to stock up with some East-Coast available beers that we just can’t get on the West Coast. The problem is getting them on the plane. Never fear, we have a trade-show booth that is on its slow journey back to SoCal!

I was able to load these along with our other items on our pallet, so we should be receiving shortly for your review and approval! I don’t know how many will have survived the journey, but it should make for an entertaining beer drinking season as we enter Oktoberfest - “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!”

I guess it is also time to put out a great thank you to Total Wine and More, located darned near everywhere I set foot these days. Having that massive rack of individual beers makes beer review tours possible. I’d also like to point out the importance of those singles racks – without them, a lot of those beers would go untested, costs being what they are. Who wants to shuck out $14.99 for 4 cans of some unknown beer you’ve never tried!

As I’m still waiting for my pallet to show up, what better time than to deplete some of my Altbier inventory from the expansive and temperature-controlled Beermeister32 Bierhoard!

You really have to appreciate a brewer as devoted to the craft as Enegren Brewing Company. We have hundreds, make that thousands of brewers out there, and only the best can crank out true-to-style brews like this. I find so many breweries might put out a product claiming that it is this or that style, Energren gets points for actually doing it!

Today’s Dinkster is filled with my very last can of Enegren Valkyrie, their delicious 6.2% ABV, 35 IBU Altbier. If you recall, the humble Becher was re-named to the more befitting “Dinkster” here right here several months ago!

This really is a great beer. These Alts are so hard to come by, stock up any time you can find them down at your local booze superstore. Prost!

My HB pipeline is getting a little low and since I won't get a chance to brew for at least another week or two, it looks as if I'll need to make a run to Total Wine soon to fill some space in the beer fridge.

I'm inspired...better stock up on some o-fest beers!

I can't say anything about how Old Style was years ago. I only started drinking it recently. I do like it and find it better than BMC.

Ugh, my trade show pallet is still on the road and has yet to deliver to me its hidden cargo – 14 Marzen, Festbier and Oktoberfest cans otherwise unavailable on the Left Coast! That’s OK, what a great opportunity to continue depleting singles out of the expansive and temperature-controlled Beermeister32 Bierhoard!

Today’s delicious beer is one of my all-time favorites – Rothaus Tannen Zäpfle. This one rates among my top 4 favorite Pilsners, and I can’t tell you which I like best because I like them all the best. Just like Beer-Loving Daughter #1, Beer-Loving Daughter #2, and Beer-Loving Daughter #3. I can’t pick which one I like the best – They are all equal in the eyes of Beermeister32! Fair and equal!

I can however make comment on this fantastic “Black Forest” produced Pilsner, brewed at the highest elevation brewery in Germany. This is a tasty 5.3% ABV Pilsner, and is “State-Owned” no less.

Well, Capitalist Pig that I am, that’s never what I want to hear, however I do appreciate and have made public support of the German folk’s efforts at preserving their major breweries. These things are cultural treasures, and in those cases where they need to be propped up, I think it is part of preserving an area's local, cultural and oftentimes family history.

I mean, what is really left after the equity manager pigs ravage companies - as is so typical in Murica. A burned out and crumbling shell of a building and not much more than trinkets and photos at the local historical society. That’s about it. So in this ONE case, I approve of these preservation efforts.

All right, off my soapbox and onto drinking. This is a FANTASTIC Pils. It has increased radically in price this year, so that may scare off a few of you penniless hobos drinking out of your paper bags, but for you “Beer Connoisseurs,” this one’s IT! Prost!
