I just looked up Heady Topper clones to confirm that they all have a bit of Centennial and Columbus in them
Heady's not a true New England IPA though. Has non-fruit notes and bitterness, both off-flavors for a New England IPA per the New Money Beer Judge Certification Program style guidelines.I just looked up Heady Topper clones to confirm that they all have a bit of Centennial and Columbus in them
Do you travel with a tulip glass handy? Have you even eaten ramen just to afford a vintage Cantillon gueuze? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you may be...
What's a standard pub in Melbourne like previously?Meanwhile literally every pub in Melbourne is going from standard pub to "hey we have craft beer now, and colourful high stools, and our menu is all some sort of burger/bun/meat thing".
I love all of those things but ****, some character would be nice. At this point it's just a template.
I don't know why it annoys me so much. 5 years ago I loved these places but... there are so many and they are all exactly the same.

Yeah, that's a shame. Bringing good beer to classic pub food is the path. Not superficial craft beer layered on me-too trendy food.**** beer, steaks, roast of the day, chicken parma. We still have a lot of great live music venues with free bands, and decent "pub" food without being pretentious or expensive. Fortunately they are also getting good beer in now.
The place that triggered that post went from an irish pub to a craft beer bar template pub. I would've loved to have seen them keep an irish theme but update it. Something like, beef brisket irish stew instead of brisket burger. Irish soda bread and stout-braised pork sandwiches, and maybe a local guinness nitro clone.
That would make me consider visiting the pub, but instead it's the exact same as about 4 or 5 places in my neighbouring suburbs. I get that it's a tried and true formula and will probably work well for them, but it's still boring.
This. And the cheap '03 LPG.Original Mikkeller in Copenhagen was great. Lower level in a building and very small. Draft list was okay with Spontanwats, but the $25 bottles of 2005 Vingeronne were the highlight of the trip. Nearby restaurant was good too.
Yeah we have dive places here doing that at a rapid clip. Huge banner hung out front "Now featuring 32 taps" plus the burgers now come with garlic aioli and romaine lettuce.Meanwhile literally every pub in Melbourne is going from standard pub to "hey we have craft beer now, and colourful high stools, and our menu is all some sort of burger/bun/meat thing".

I feel your pain... trying to stay strong and say no.Stupid BA Speedway why isn't it sold out yet... so tempting.
Why? Too much $$$?I feel your pain... trying to stay strong and say no.
Sorta... I know it's worth the price cuz it's soooo good, but we're going to Seattle on Saturday for a week so... (plus gotta find a proxy, pay for shipping, grumble grumble)Why? Too much $$$?
Man, Apple Brandy Noir's is pretty awesome. With the most recent Pirate Bomb, BA Bomb and this, Prairie is stepping up their BA game on the stouts. Well done.
Didn't you send me a "replacement" growler bag? I think I lost it within a month.
We use the grey bag as a travel case for coffee supplies.
I thought it was gross.Birthday Bomb wasn't half bad either
And then forgot to strain the tangerine pulp.I have no vested interest in the secondary market value but sweet Jesus is Jjjuliusss good. I domed a growler of HF Double Citra and had a glass of HF Excursions 3 before I opened this can. Incredible. It's like you steeped Citra hops in tangerine juice.
Julius has been a flagship beer for Treehouse for a few years now....it's always been good and always has been a thing before this whole "NE ipa's" fad started. And then forgot to strain the tangerine pulp.
No thanks.
