We get some good IPAs here, but they are frequently not fresh, and are almost all stored on the shelves at room temperature. I'll still buy Two-Hearted cans, Alpine Duet* if it's fresh, and a few other things. I try to patronize the local store but they make it hard sometimes. Makes it tempting to shop at the Harris Teeter where everything is in a cooler.

In MD, I can’t just go into a store and buy a great IPA at any time. I can’t remember the last time saw a real, live bottle of Double Jack that was less than 3 months old. Ditto Union Jack. I’m pretty sure that fresh Sculpin doesn’t even exist anymore. Maine Beer Lunch hits every so often, as does Sucks (which is now harder to find fresh).

In terms of locals, Union’s Double Duckpin is probably our best option, and it’s nothing mindblowing. The others are just overhyped by locals because they are in cans.

Double Duckpin is better than what a lot of people have as their local. Big fan

Yeah I did sell the Dub Duck a little short in my post. It is a little inconsistent, but it is always a good beer. You are right though, I'm sure a lot of areas would take that beer over most of their locals.

I had Double Duckpin on draft last time I was in D.C. I thought it was good, maybe a touch boozy, but I think I would have probably enjoyed it more on a fresher palate and if I wasn't so full up on food and beer.

Speaking of that night, FW Pivo Pils is such a spectacularly pleasant and easy drinking beer.

You can go to DC Brau and get Wings and Solar Abyss..err, whatever they're calling it now.

While you're there you can GPIUFMB :)

I would if it weren't 2 hours from my parts :). I did forget about OTWOA though. The last batch I had was fantastic.

If I can get more than a sixer next time it hits, I will snag you some and you can send me a label.

That moment when your local brewery sets limits based on the number of people "interested" in the event on Facebook.

Follow up. Saw the owner in the grocery store last night so I asked how the release went. They canned 50 cases and "sold just shy of 19".

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Canned 50 cases? That's less than 5 bbls and that's if they're 16 oz cans. Who the **** cans 150 gallons of beer at a time?

Based on turn out, that was already too much. This place is something else. They make good beer, nothing stellar. It sits on shelves locally due to the price point. The owners are both pretty young and graduated from the "prestegious" Colgate University and think they are all sorts of business savvy. They just broke ground on new 3 million dollar (yes I typed that right) facility which slates them to be one of the larger producers in NY.

My whole thing is, you're dumb. You can't ******* sell your beer locally so what? Your are going to pump it out and attempt to gain traction in other markets? Shitheads.

**** man, it costs 9 bucks for a pint of their flagship DIPA in their ******* taproom and they wonder why it doesn't move that fast. 9 ******* dollars.

tikk, you may have seen some of their stuff downstate, Good Nature Brewing.

They're not going to be good natured when it's time for the bankruptcy auction. Treehouse can sell 100 bbls in 5 hrs and these guys can't sell 5bbls, but they're putting $3m into a new facility?

Yea we have one of those, actually two now, in NC. Funny thing is, they're just taking their beer to ****** markets and killing it. Not a bad model, but why build the huge facility?

Can't say I've seen it, but I haven't heard a reason to look for it. Is it worth checking out?

The business is technically in the wifes name so she reaped a bunch of grants from the university for being a female business owner. They also subsidised some grants from NY as they are the first "farm brewery" in NY. NY cut breweris a break a couple years back provided they produce the beer using something like 70% NYS ingredients.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I hope it works out for them but it doesn't make any sense to me and I am far from a business major.
