All of this talk reminded me of something else my wife did at TH that was hilarious.

As we were checking out the guy at the register was chatting us up, found out we were from out of town, asked us how it was, blah blah blah. My wife says "Ya, I just can't believe the hype around here about this place!". She meant it in a good way but the guy looked like he had been straight slapped in the face.

With a perfectly blank face he stares back and just says "It is NOT hype."

Can't believe I held a straight face, almost died laughing...

Some people probably make more money selling beer on the secondary market than they do at their normal job.
Let's see, the Cycle bottle set is selling for around 900 bucks, subtract 125 from the cost, that's 775 bucks in a week for a single set, that's already more money than I make in a week.

When you start factoring in more than one set, well, there ya go.

really wish this was more of a thing when i was in college. would have saved me a lot of trouble.

The fact that people take a day off work to buy beer absolutely baffles me. Talk about lost priorities.

The fact that people actually get up and go to work at a job they most likely loathe instead of sitting at home and drinking beer all day absolutely baffles me.

On a side note, TalkBeer's residents actually have jobs?

it's pretty incredible how everyone goes apeshit for this can craze now....it was heady topper a few years ago now its every ******* beer. people don't know if its good or bad if its a new beer, but that obviously doesn't matter they want it regardless...seriously its so pathetic.

Agreed, I thought that when "American Youth" was available on draft at Half Acre it was worse than most of Half Acre's year-round offering. It was just a giant melding of HopHands and Daisy Cutter that went horribly wrong. Why anyone would pay $18-20 for a four pack of that is beyond crazy (not to mention take work off / wait in line / whatever you nuts do out in Ardmore!).

idk maybe the IPA is that good?

Yes. Quality doesn't matter. Every IPA in a bottle-"wish it was in cans", every IPA in 12 oz cans- "wish it was in 16 oz cans", Every IPA in 16oz cans- "this is up there with the big boys" GFY. Go camping, or to the pool, or to whatever other nonsense activity you can't stop mentioning every time you bring up beer cans and stop talking to me.

So many laughs at things I've heard touted as "up there with the big boys", then those same people go back to hunting the "big boys" soon after. I'm done with people who can't decern quality and with people who just drink with rose colored glasses on. It's just become obnoxious. I wish I could go back to those days but since I can't I just purge my untappd of anyone who has never rated a beer below a 3.

Is there anywhere in America that doesn't have a quality IPA in their local liquor store these days? I understand that you can't just drive to your local and grab a top tier BA stout, but IPA's are pretty dang plentiful. Here in the midwest we can stock up on Pseudo Sue, Todd the Axeman, Fulton 300. Out west there are literally a bajillion solid IPA's. Down in Tejas they can drink Yellow Rose until they throw up (do recommend). Don't get me wrong, they make great IPA's out there in New England.. but, so does everyone else.

semantics, but NY does not. No malted beverages can be sold in a store that sells wine and spirits. Also, wine and spirits are ONLY availble in designated "liquor stores", which can't open before noon on Sundays.

I wonder how many of the people who show up to every can release have dozens of old cans in their fridges or cellars (read, closets). There's no way people can drink a ~case of pounders in a week, right? I think people have become obsessed with acquiring.

I've largely stopped trading/sending out boxes (unless it's GPUFMB for a friend) for the additional cost specifically, and that's purely for $4$ trades. The cost per beer from a shipment is roughly double what it would be retail. I'll pass on paying $15 for a bomber of IPA when there is so much good beer around me. And obviously that unit cost is much worse as you "trade up" for rarer bottles.

I know someone who gets about 12-24 TH cans monthly. He somehow drinks em all. He told me he pays 2x retail plus shipping. Somehow I think he's paying more though and just doesn't want to admit it.

"Somehow" drinks 12 - 24 cans a month? In what universe is this a lot of beer where it is difficult to imagine someone drinking "that much"??

I personally would get sick of them, and I was more referring to the sheer amount of $ he's spending on them monthly. He doesn't trade, just buys beer on secondary. I can only handle so much orange juice in my life. Also, paying $15-20 for an IPA is hilarious. Its more of the combo of him paying so much, and then drinking a case of them. I can tell you he has never had any of the top IPAs in America other than trillium, TH, heady and lawsons. I personally prefer juju over all of those.
