It isn't packaged, but Breck did an imperial Porter aged in rum barrels for their 26 or 27th anniversary, I had a pour today and that **** almost rotted my teeth out. Breckenridge brewey; still trying to make the worst beers in Denver

If it's this, it is packaged and I had it last night. Not great, but it didn't threaten to corrode my teeth.

Randomly have become kind of obsessed w/ brandy & cognac barrel aged beers. Maybe it's a cold weather thing, I dunno.... but any recommendations of stuff I should chase that isn't gonna be a nightmare to obtain?

Brandy Angel's Share can be very good. Also, no joke, Lakefront Brandy Barrel Imperial Pumpkin is phenomenal.

Weird it didn't have vanilla on the keg label but it very well could be. On draft it was so insanely sweet and I dont have a big sweet tooth but didn't refuse a poor from the comely bar wench.

If whatever you tasted had the most artificial and overwhelming vanilla character you've ever encountered, I'm pretty sure it's the same beer.

If you want to try a beer where the apply brandy character is REALLY front and center, you should try to get your hands on Captain Lawrence Golden Delicious or Voodoo Apple Brandy Gran Met. They are both tripels aged in apple brandy barrels. I believe that Golden Delicious is a seasonal release and comes around at least somewhat often. AB Gran Met has only been released twice (a few hundred bottles or so each time) at Barrel Room releases, so it may be a little tough to get, but it's hardly the most sought after Voodoo BA beer, so I have to think you may be able to get your hands on one.

As a disclaimer, I am a big fan of both of these beers, but friends who shared them with me didn't necessarily share my enthusiasm.

I'll happily send you a sixer of the CL GD, they just switched from bomber to 12 oz. I'm a fan of the beer, but I need to be in the mood for it as it is SUPER AB forward. Just pm me your deets and I will get it out next week for you.

Very generous offer! I hope jupiter6xx takes you up on it.

12 oz. is a much better serving size for that beer - glad to hear they made the switch.

It's been a few years since I've had golden delicious, but I share your friends' lack of enthusiasm.

Maybe the years have done it some good though?

If he doesn't want it, can I beg for it IP when I'm in New York in a week?

I haven't had Golden Delicious in a while, but I shared your sentiment. I don't remember it a whole lot, but I described it as "Barrel aged apple juice." Definitely a ton of apple from what I recall.

You get Pink Lady's over there? That's the ****. Nothing comes close.

I've got Pink Lady's nearly year round. Good apple that I regularly recommend. Have you had Honeycrisp, Jazz or Opal Gold?

On a somewhat related note, we recently got a ton of Australian Mangoes. Calypso, R2E2 and Honey Gold varieties. Those things are incredible, some of the best mangoes I've ever had.

Jazz, but not the other two I don't think. I love jazz, but pink lady for all round eating.

Also, Calypso have been on point this year. R2e2 have been a bit up and down. I'm lucky enough to live near a vietnamese market that is crazy cheap, and they have everything available to sample. Getting to taste 3 or 4 mangos before deciding on one is a real treat... if you ignore the flies, and the yelling vietnamese ladies trying to make you buy 2 kilos at a time (they snatch your bag and start putting them in while barking at you).

Damn I love that market.
