If he doesn't want it, can I beg for it IP when I'm in New York in a week?
I'd you are up in my neck of the woods, which no one ever is, I'll buy you a few. Of course after a couple of those I usually like to play how many knuckles am I hiding.

Well at least half of that is true.

I've got Pink Lady's nearly year round. Good apple that I regularly recommend. Have you had Honeycrisp, Jazz or Opal Gold?

On a somewhat related note, we recently got a ton of Australian Mangoes. Calypso, R2E2 and Honey Gold varieties. Those things are incredible, some of the best mangoes I've ever had.
There are more than 3 kinds of mango? I usually eat the Manila mangoes until my insides are tenderized.

If you want to try a beer where the apply brandy character is REALLY front and center, you should try to get your hands on Captain Lawrence Golden Delicious or Voodoo Apple Brandy Gran Met. They are both tripels aged in apple brandy barrels. I believe that Golden Delicious is a seasonal release and comes around at least somewhat often. AB Gran Met has only been released twice (a few hundred bottles or so each time) at Barrel Room releases, so it may be a little tough to get, but it's hardly the most sought after Voodoo BA beer, so I have to think you may be able to get your hands on one.

As a disclaimer, I am a big fan of both of these beers, but friends who shared them with me didn't necessarily share my enthusiasm.
These both sound really interesting, especially as I can't think of any Tripel I've had aged in either brandy or cognac barrels. Never heard of either so thanks for the info! Now ISO etc

I know Craft Beer Kings is a ripoff and all... but isn't $30 for a Velvet Merkin a joke even by their standards?

Those weekly trips they take up to Russian River to horde more Temptation 3Ls are funded through your g̶e̶n̶e̶r̶o̶u̶s̶ ̶d̶o̶n̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ purchases.

I know this will never happen because it would make it difficult for breweries to sell out their limited release infected/crappy beers, but wouldn't it be nice if the day before a release the beer was on tap so you could decide how much you wanted?

This was our savior at Dark Horse's 4 Elf Party about 3 (?) years ago when the line got so bad for bottle pickups that Dark Horse opened up a bunch of the beer available for sale for sampling. Pretty sure between lurchingbeast pasta fear025 trickytunadicky and myself we saved well over $400.00 that day by not buying awful beers.

Jazz, but not the other two I don't think. I love jazz, but pink lady for all round eating.

Also, Calypso have been on point this year. R2e2 have been a bit up and down. I'm lucky enough to live near a vietnamese market that is crazy cheap, and they have everything available to sample. Getting to taste 3 or 4 mangos before deciding on one is a real treat... if you ignore the flies, and the yelling vietnamese ladies trying to make you buy 2 kilos at a time (they snatch your bag and start putting them in while barking at you).

Damn I love that market.

Definitely agree on the Calypso. First wave of R2E2 we got were incredible, didn't try the second wave since we only got 6 cases of those. You can sample anything you want at my store too!

But since you enjoy Pink Lady, pick up Honeycrisp if you ever see them. I think you would enjoy those.

Yup! There are a bunch of different varieties, but you usually only see a few different ones in stores (most grocery store mangoes are Tommy Atkins, Keitt, Kent, or Haden, Ataulfo are common too). The Australian and Indian have been the best I've had, but you won't really see them here in the states. We got one wave of Indian mangoes a few years back and haven't seen them since, and my store chain along with only two other stores in the entire country received the Australian this year. We don't really see the Manila here actually.

If you ever see Ataulfo, those are my favorite more common mango. They're small and yellow, pretty sweet and generally aren't as fibrous like the more traditional mangoes.

This movie is actually very interesting in that regard. Also has a nice section focused on mangos.

Honeycrips are beautiful when fresh. It might be basic but I am a fan of granny smiths as well. They are just a safe choice when unsure of what the other apples are like/how fresh. I would rather sacrifice flavor to have a crisper apple than a mushy one.

I'll have to check that out! Ice Cream Beans are awesome, Jackfruit too. It tastes just like Juicy Fruit bubblegum. Or I guess you would say Juicy Fruit tastes just like Jackfruit, rather.

That Durian tho.

This beer was pretty solid. A bit on the hot/boozy side and a bit thin, but it's got good barrel character and enough vanilla to know that it's there. If you're looking for some thick syrupy vanilla milkshake bomb you're not going to get that. If you want a decent BA stout with vanilla character it's right there and won't take bottles of Cantillon to acquire.

I'd really like to get this one in a blind taste test with some of the more hyped examples of the style.
