I'd be careful... bunnies can be dangerous. One minute you're saying, "one rabbit stew coming right up!". The next minute your head falls off.

Doubtful it's a rabbit. They cover the holes they dig with grass to try and camouflage it. If it is a rabbit, they usually do no harm. Where I used to live, I had a rabbit burrow a den in my back yard and have little rabbits every summer. One year, the den was a couple of feet from my hop plants and they did nothing to them. However, after the babies are older, they'd pop out of the den and run for cover when I mowed the lawn. I tried to avoid them, but the last year I lived there, I didn't see one and, well... it ended up like the climactic scene in Fargo.

I also doubt it's a rabbit. Like was said earlier, they are more smeaky about there holes and usually just dig a den, not a bloody subway like a gopher or ground hog.

Only one way to determine it is a rabbit:

Kill it and eat it.

If it tastes like chicken it's a rabbit.

Right?

I'm not convinced you have a woodchuck (groundhog). Every time I have had problems with woodchucks, they have burrowed UNDER something- my shed, my garage, etc. A rabbit is more likely to make a nest in the middle of the yard, IMHO. How deep is the hole? Is it like a tunnel, or just a little depression in the ground? A rabbit will just dig a small depression in the ground and line it with fur for a nest, while a woodchuck will go much deeper, like a tunnel.

Holy crap that is awesome! lol, and man is that guy into what he does or what. Damn Gophers stealing everyone's money!

I am going to take a picture of the hole and post it up this weekend!

When I see a hole like that, I think canine. Around here, it would be a coyote after a gopher/mole/vole.

Or Boss Bailey, he's a random digger.

This guy can help.

probably not a rabbit if its in the middle of the yard, they like to be around cover for their dens. most likely a groundhog or even a nieghborhood dog. godd luck.

if it is a ribbit they are damn good eating!!!!!!!

FYI: Skunks, groundhogs, foxes, badgers, etc... make holes/dens like this. If you have a camcorder, or a webcam that you can set to record, I'd do that 1st, just to identify the critter, just point it out the window at the hole & wait. The LAST thing you need is a live skunk in a trap: can't set them free, nor can you shoot them without the damned thing stinking up everything in the yard. Once you've identified the critter, you will be able to take appropriate action. Regards, GF.

Well nothing has been seen around the hole, no new activity and no new holes. However my Wife and I noticed we have a very large Great Horned Owl living on the back of our property that perches itself in a very high tree just behind our house. We both got a feeling our little problem has been taken care of naturally.

:D

Translation: I bought a pellet gun, but didn't tell the wife. ;)
