Ive never had anything from Omnipollo. Apex predator is a favorite of mine so thats pretty exciting. How are the rest of Off Colors beers?

I remember having some Omnipollo back home pre-untappd but I don't remember details. I tried Shilkmake (lactose IPA w/ strawberry and vanilla collab with Tired Hands) in April and really enjoyed it.

Every Off Color I've had (around 10 or so) have been good to great. Purchase without worry.

Off color is generally pretty good. Their Gose and Berliner are decent. Dinos smores their stout is pretty fantastic. They do some mixed fermentation stuff but I'm not sure if that sees regular distro. Apex Predator is their crown jewel though. Easily the best clean saison made in the united states.

I'm head to PIT tomorrow for Game 5 (Go Pens!) and I was hoping to hit up some good spots. Any recommendations? Is the Voodoo Homestead location worth a visit? How far is it from downtown? I couldn't find a tap list for their location (no Facebook) any where else I could find it?

Thanks!

Just noticed this https://www.beermenus.com/places/34502-voodoo-homestead/

I don't think I've ever had a Cascade beer I've liked. A high ABV beer that is just lactic and sour with some fruit doesn't really appeal to me especially at their price point. They are basically doing really strong barrel aged Berliners and charging crazy amounts of money for them.

Wonder what they will cost in Pittsburgh but if they are the $22-30 price point, I'd buy them. I can't wait to go back to Cascade when I am in Portland in July

Never had Apex Predator (but plan on it for sure now) but you prefer it to Arthur? That beer is a god damn masterpiece. I enjoy it more and more every time I have it.

Arthur isn't clean.

Edit: I can't think of a better "clean" American-made Saison, either, off of the top of my head. I am also a Classique fanboy, and that'll be coming to Pittsburgh, too. Great news for the area.

Arthur has brett and lacto in it. That's why I said best clean saison. If it was best saison in America in general I'd probably go with HF Anna or Jolly Pumpkin Bam Biere. Haven't had Arthur yet.

Love those two. I also include TH's SaisonHands in there too (since they started using those foudres).

Yeah Saisonhands is up there as well. That's usually all I drink when I go to Tired Hands.

The first time I had SaisonHands was before they got the foudres. It was just okay. Then last year I got a growler of it from Pizza Boy, and it was a totally different beast. Just about perfect in every way. That growler was finished in record time, I think.

Ah, I overlooked the clean part. I greatly prefer Arthur to Anna personally. Anna was a bit too sour for what I was looking for the only time I had it.

Yeah funny thing about that beer is it was always fermented with a mixed culture but would sell so quickly they never had much time to let it sit. Sometimes they would hold kegs back for a few months and tap them randomly and it would taste a lot like it does now minus the mouthfeel you get from the oak.

Funny you say that, the last bottle of Arthur I had was more sour than the last Anna I had. Probably an older bottle.

Yeah the Anna I had wasn't very old so it was only lightly tart. I've only had it once though so no clue on the variance it may have.

Calabaza Blanca is my fav JP beer. But I also haven't had a bad JP beer.

Calabaza Blanca is my go to JP offering as well. I actually completed an IP trade recently by proxy (.....yeah, figure that **** out  ) for some of their things that I had never had and were apparently turding up MI shelves: Rozjillo, La Roja Du Kriek and one other I can't remember...looking forward to them...

Did you guys get a chance to try the Calabaza Boreal? It was their collab with Anchorage, both brewed at their own brew and bottled at their own brew house. Both versions were very good, liked the Anchorage a little bit more.

Nope, but I want it now.

I'm pretty sure the Anna was around a year old so the bugs did have some time. I've had Arthur a few times (4 maybe?) now and never found it to be more than mildly tart. To me, for a non-barreled saison, it's exactly what I want.

If I see a bottle in the next week I'll grab one for ya.

awesome man, appreciated...
Can we start a petition to bring JP to Pittsburgh?
absolutely...back when I frequented ho1kb, I always ended up leaving with at least one JP bottle. Was even worth it with the markup ($18 maybe)...and that's another thing, they're prices are totally legit.
