Not Pittsburgh beer, but I thought it was entertaining. At the Art release, HF was matching names on registrations to names that they've seen upselling their stuff online and kicking them out. Just thought it was relevant after watching Voodoo fight the same battle. I hope more breweries start doing stuff like this.

That would be pretty fun to watch

We have ambulances here weekly because they will not go to the doctor for blood pressure, die beetus, heart problems, etc. I have found employees face down on the ground because they ran out of black market blood thinners and refused to go to the doctor because they couldn't afford cigarettes for the week because they won't buy insurance.

Emergency departments serve as primary care physicians (and narcotics dispensaries) too often in rural and impoverished areas across the US, but such practice was hyper-prevalent in my locale. This is a crippling healthcare inefficiency, which we all suffer from, at least indirectly. While funding and mountainous geography no doubt play a role in the bottom rung educational system, the generational malaise and caviler recidivism of drug use/scammy motor vehicle crashes for insurance $$$ made the majority of my day-to-day interactions...challenging during those years.

I think Pittsburgh absolutely needs more breweries. Pittsburgh just doesn't need anymore Ok breweries. I think specialization is the way to go. Do one thing extremely well. I'm not sure we need anymore places who brew everything pretty good but don't really stand out with anything. There is always room for good beer though.

He really should just stick to DFH reviews.
Speaking of, anyone have any insight as to the quality of Immort?
Saw it for sale and am considering spluring. Sounds tasty. Idk though.

War Streets brewing is on its way...
yea, Allegheny City Brewing is opening "soon" too...

Don't like stereotypes and agree with your sentiment about access to parks and such, but as a state the data is moribund--VW is consistently among the last in literacy, math proficiency, secondary education completion, etc., and frequently leading the pack in obesity, teen pregnancy and death by drug overdose.
And they lie about diesel emissions. ********.

A lot of the data is over-inflated, might not be the best usage of wording though. There are bad apples, sure, just like anywhere else. Problem with data is that in more populous areas there is enough good to overshadow the bad, or at least make it look not as bad. In WV there isn't enough good to do that unfortunately. The poor far outweigh any other demographic, hence why drug use/overdoses are so high, thats a given. I would look at the actual #s though when comparing it to other areas. Plus its balanced out with other things. In more populous areas you see more shooting, murders, rapes, etc. Not a lot of that in WV.

On the education front same thing. There are schools that are small and way out in BFE. Im sure they dont enroll the most gifted of students at these schools. This drags down the higher results when testing students statewide. I also know they recently changed the type of testing they do, or something like that. I only just had a baby to education is top of mind just yet

Immort's one of my favorite DFH beers. I liken it to HotD Adam.

I haven't been there yet but my wife has a few times and loved it. The drinks aren't cheap, but it seems like a quieter type place that you can go to and actually hear the person sitting next to you (i realize how old i sound saying that). Apparently the coffee is good and they have breakfast sandwiches and stuff like that to go in the morning. It appears to be a nice alternative to the rest of the places in the neighborhood that you have to cram into like a can of sardines.
To be fair, I think I was there on a Fri night or something, so probably a little different than the Wed breakfast crowd.

In summary: mostly bad.

Can I check in HotD Adam on untappd now that you've made this comparison?

Not referencing Thrillist or shampoo bottles, made sure to seek out government websites and reputable publications. Agree that stats can lie and data can be skewed, but not relying on conventional wisdom--looking at averages. While major metropolitan areas with higher density may suffer higher crime in a general sense, WV ranks ninth when it comes to death by firearm, per 100,000 population (at 14.3).

Alaska, the 47th least populated state is the state with the highest rate of death by firearm (per 100k, at 19.8) and the highest rate of reported rape.

Most of what you think about West Virginia as a whole is true, unfortunately. As I said earlier, I do believe the north central part of the state can be a bit different.. But, there's a reason I moved to Pittsburgh 12 years ago and will never move back.

I've got a lot of love for WV, it's home, but it's unfortunately earned it's reputation in many ways.

Nah. Not if they specialize in brown ales or something no one can trade

I would think a brewpub in McCandless / Wexford would kill it - put it by the Whole Foods and rake in all that disposable income.

But yeah, real estate is crazy expensive there as I am sadly learning from trying to buy a house there..

I knew a kid who's parents owned a bunch of that land in the 80s. They thought they hit gold selling it for about 10k an acre. His dad couldn't get over it. It was like the only thing he talked about, when I was there so about 10 years ago. Can't even imagine now.

Born in Uniontown, which is essentially WV and where someone is maimed or fatally wounded in an embarrassing way weekly. While we've since moved, but like Kanye, I don't forget where I came from.

Edit: Guess point being that I'm not building a picture from conjecture or stereotypes, I lived it.
