did you taste the seaweed?
Barely. But that could've been just the combo of salt & barrel
The caviar?
Nope
The oyster?
Nope
If no, what the **** was the point? Would a tasty gose have equally served the purpose?
It was a tasty Gose. I maintain my philosophy that they only add this **** minimal amount to get everyone's opinions out & talk about them, for better or for worse. If they just released a black barrel aged Gose, no one cares, no one talks about it. Add The Baltimore House's Raw Bar to it & now every internet cicerone has opinions & everyone is talking about it & people are ISO & people hate it & more people are talking about it & exposure exposure exposure.

You're going to be able to answer all of these questions for yourself soon enough. Don't you worry your pretty little head about it.

Me trying to get through most DL beers is like Ron Swanson trying to eat a banana:

McMatt7 let me tell you why that will never happen.

kbuzz actually really loves smokey beers... And what have some of our fellow TBers said about that beer, eh? Subtle smoke, right? He loves Laphroig too. Oh, how he loves Laphroig.

If Kevin actually tries that beer, and has to admit that he liked it, his universe will implode upon itself. He just can't risk it.

I thought it was because kbuzz doesn't know how to work technology and wouldn't know how to fill himself

I said this before and it got snowed under, but what about volume? A burger at Wendy's is cheaper than one at Burgatory and yes, quality of ingredients is part of that equation, but so is the volume of beef that one is purchasing over the other. Alchemist is brewing, canning and selling WAY more volume of Heady Topper than any local brewery here is of anything. That's going to effect the pricing in a major way.
i didn't snow it over i was still thinking about it. that argument might make sense if the alchemist's cans went dramatically down in price in the past few year, but they've been consistent more or less. the major difference is that for the past few years, the alchemist is a production only brewery with much less overhead per output than a taproom. i guess hill farmstead is getting closer to being more of a production brewery as well. i guess we have to pay a premium for local breweries to have a taproom.

How much do these special bottle release beers or 4 pack can things cost locally? Serious question i don't really know.

I know i get $50 worth of HF stuff every year from a pal of mine and i'm always happy with the quantity and quality.
HF shelfies are $10 each. the barrel aged stuff can be pricey. Heady is $3 a can / $72 a case last time i was there.

Nah like how much is a 4pack of DG cans or a bottle of DL Grocean, or a big bottle of BG Saison or Stout or something?

So what do you feel is the reason that beer is more expensive here then? Just arbitrarily high price setting?

Depends. I (think?) the Better One or Two cans I got at DG were $18 for a 4 pack. DL beers are generally pretty cheap I think with their 750s being in the $6-9 range.

TBH, I don't pay a ton of attention to a price unless I think it's egregious and I've never had that thought with any of the locals.

that's a hard question to answer. i just feel like its a double whammy, more expensive and not as high quality as vermont (which arguably has the best beer in the world, yadda yadda, i know)

$16 for APAs & IPAs, $18 for DIPAs. Plus the labels reek, you have to wait in a line with no shade, & the backing of the stickers is hard to peel off. It's hell on Earth.

Cause you're the resident DG window licker, I do have a Q for you that I was pondering.

If you do three 4 pack limit, 12 cans per, and it sells out in 35 minutes, is the limit too high? That's not a question specific to DG, just using them as an example here of course.

I wouldn't say so, especially since they'll be doing repeated runs in the future & these aren't one-&-done batches. Missed it? Wait a couple months.

Fair point. I didn't really have strong feelings about it either way, just got me to thinking about it the other day when Exquisite Beast sold out so quickly.

That's Trillium pricing. DG is not Trillium. I generally have enjoyed what I've had from them but that's more than enough reason for me to skip their can releases.

there are a lot more variables involved in the restaurant industry. i feel comparing a can of ipa from one place to a can of ipa from another is reasonable. feel free to compare the cost and quality of gaucho's food to another byob argentinian grill (or whatever the hell they are).
Yeah, not my best analogy work. But there are a ton of variables, most of which have been discussed before in this thread, and I got lazy. Economies of scale, hop contracts, local/state taxes, rent / real estate costs, etc.

That's Beer 2017 pricing.

If you aren't doing constant can releases for at least $15 per 4-pack, you ain't ****.

yeah i regret going down this road. we've been here before. i'm too busy today.

DG DIPAs are $18/4 pack. In my experience, Trillium DIPAs are usually $20.20 or $22.50/4 pack.

Mr. Kimmich would like a word.

Definitely exceptions to the rule.

In Maryland, Burley Oak, RAR, and Manor Hill have long been on the $16/4pack release train. Union finally just joined in, which disappointed me.

DG is on the train. Voodoo too, right?

But if it's not their fault, then it is what it is and not worth complaining about right? Not trying to be a dick...just working toward trying to determine if this is a legit gripe.

Just cause it's not as high in quality as Trill doesn't mean it costs less to make though.

So if you sell out of said beer at the $18 a 4 pack mark in a half hour, why in the hell would you sell if for cheaper?
