Hey there all. My next venture is going to be a Pina Colada mead, but the internet seems divisive on the best way to get the coconut flavor. There have been mixed camps on using coconut water in the fermenter as apparently the oils from the coconut cause problems. There have been other people that have added full chunks of coconut to secondary.

Has anyone brewed anything like this before? Do they have a recipe they swear by? Any help would be appreciated.

i just started making mead, and the first thing im making is a pina colada mead using juice i got from the store (in juice box form). im not really following a recipe since i was just screwing around, i started it 2 days ago and gave it a taste just now, to see how it tastes, and it's surprisingly good, it tastes of mostly pineapple with a hint of coconut and ofc it had the sting and lingering taste of alcohol.

here is my botched recipe:

2 liters of pina colada juice
400 grams of honey
just enough water to disolve the honey (no aditional water)
and the yeast (i used bread yeast)

as i already said it's only been 2 days since it's been fermenting, but so far it tastes really good, will update later
