I just ordered a PID controller to operate from one of my K thermocouples.... programmable for heating or cooling, and with an alarm function. $25.98 from NewEgg.com. An excellent and reliable company. This particular unit will not go into my brewing setup........ which is pretty primitive, but will control my friend's still so it can run more or less unattended. It would be perfect for a RIMS or HERMS system. That kind of electronics sounds intimidating to most of us, but in fact is pretty darn simple. Hook it up to AC power, connect a suitable relay, and program it for heating or cooling.......... The codes for setting it up are pretty arcane...... You couldn't do it without the manual...........Definitely not a Macintosh interface, but they should be pretty functional. If I'm happy with this one, I have several other applications for these..... including brewing.

PIDs are very common items you find in our home brewers tool boxes, not intimidating.
Hundreds are in use by HBT members, from single units to multiple.

Have fun with your unit:D
