Any Home Brewers(fermenters?) in Oregon have suggestions for good places to get fresh juice at peak apple time? I was thinking maybe the Fruit Loop out in the Hood River area. I've never seen any at any metro farmer's market.

Any tips/help would be awesome!

Oregon Heritage Farm is south of Hillsboro and treated me well last year. They have honey, too.

thanks. I was under the belief that eating varieties of apples didn't make very good cider. How did yours turn out?

This website lists a bunch of orchards:

It seems, however, that most of the farms listed sell eating apples.

I have found, after a significant investment of time, two farms that have cider and heirloom variety apples nearby. Maybe you can find something closer to your area.

The farms I've found are:

Mansfield Farm -Culver, OR

Territorial Road Orchard - Corvallis, OR

Actually, after looking at some of the varieties available at farms around your area (form the 1st website) it appears there are some very nice options. I hadn't checked before due to the distance.

I wonder if anyone with experience can add to this thread - Do farms press single variety cider upon request?

damn, some of these places are close! A few of them within 5 miles of me and I didn't even know they were there. Don't know if they press though...

I made a cyser, and it turned out fine. Granted, it needed a long waiting period as per usual, but the blend was fine. I believe the OHF sells juice made from "juicing" apples.

I get my juice from Fresh Start Market in Salem. Their juice is a dessert apple blend pressed and UV pasteurized by Bauman farms in Gervais. I've had good success with their juice, though it doesn't have the tannic and acid characteristics of true cider varieties. They sell it for five dollars a gallon, and the business is a youth development project for juvenile corrections so it's also supporting a great cause.

I will have to try there. That is on Center...thanks. Maybe I could blend the EZ Orchard juice and that...best of both worlds.
