I have a Brewer’s Best Black Lager kit that I purchased somewhere around 2009 or 2010 that I recently stumbled across in my closet. Here’s a list of all the ingredients are in their originally sealed container.

• 2 Cans of Light Malt Extract
• 1 Bag (8 oz.) Crushed DE – Bittered Black & Crushed Chocolate Malt
• 1 oz Vanguard Bittering Hops (vacuum packed bag)
• ½ oz. Sterling Aroma Hops (vacuum packed bag)
• 1 oz. Argentine Cascade Flavoring Hops (vacuum packed bag)
• 5 oz. bag of priming sugar.
• 11.5 gram bag of yeast (waaaayyyy out of date)

I was wondering if the ingredients would still be good for making beer. Obviously the yeast is out of date and needs to be replaced but what about the rest of the ingredients? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

The malt extract will be a bit darker, but should make an OK beer. The hops have probably suffered a bit - the bittering hops probably less than half the AA% - the other hops I'd toss. The specialty grains should be ok as long as they look and smell fine, they probably won't contribute quite as much flavor but should be good to use.
