I'm brewing an amber ale used a liquid yeast that i forgot to refridgerate. There is no krausen or airlock action and it's been a week now. when i popped the lid on the fermenter there looked to be possible mold? i pitched another packet of yeast today and keeping my fingers crossed. is it safe to say that i've ruined this batch and need to start over?

I did a west coast ipa the first time around that went flawless. not sure if i got a little cocky on this one :/

It depends on how long you left the yeast exposed. You've done a batch so you can tell the difference between mold and kraeusen. If it's mold pitch it.

I skimmed the mold off the top of a friend's batch one and the beer was acceptable, so if it hasn't started churning around yet, this might be a possibility. Krausen looks nothing like mold - if you see bright green or white, you've got a batch of mold growing. Dark green or brown and foamy, you're fine.

Liquid yeast HAS to be kept refrigerated. Good learning experience if nothing else.

Can we see a picture of this "mold" are you sure it's not krausen with hops mixed in? Almost everyone who's ever posted a pic of what they were sure was mold, turned out to be either hoppy krausen remains, or hoppy krausen. And have you actually taken a grav reading? Because whether or not the airlock bubbles or not, doesn't mean anything. Plenty of fermenters do have any airlock activity.

Thanks for the suggestions. I repitched some yeast and skimmed the questionable things at the top. I tried some when transferring to the secondary fermenter. I think its good to go.
