I've just brewed my first batch. How long should the bottles remain at room temperature (cool basement) before refrigerating??

A typical batch will carbonate in 3 weeks.

If you mean your brew is already in bottles, then you should wait 3 to 4 weeks before cooling them down.

How cold is your basement?
