Would have taken a long time without the second pic.
Pamploma is correct. And I had a back up just in case:

You're up @dirkomatic.

Ah, Pamplona. You beat me to it... The second picture looks very different from the 1st, which could have been in many many places. The "El Mexicano" restaurant was a telltale sign that this was NOT Mexico :)

i blew the pic up and was thinking, it said maya-star-vkv something?

Ha!

The yellowish house in the near distance was the home of a famous Springfield resident.... And not one of the Simpsons. :)

Y’all are supposed to guess or ask for clues… I already left one. There’s also a bit of sleight of hand in this image, which was obviously not taken by me.

That would be very close, indeed. But the town in the picture is way too small to be Lisbon. This place was talked about in a great book. By an award-winning non-English author.

The building is better known as the Palace of Mafra, but, just as my previous post of El Escorial, it is a royal palace, a monastery, a church, a hunting lodge, a UNESCO heritage site and, apparently, a convent. It has one of the most stunning libraries I have seen. Apparently the Portuguese kings, having too much gold in their coffers and still-recent memories of being under Spanish domination, wanted to one up their Spanish cousins.

Jose Saramago, a Nobel Laureate, wrote Memorial do Convento (published as Baltasar and Blimunda in English), which has the grueling construction of the palace as its backdrop. It’s an incredible book. In the horizon you can almost see Ericeira beach, known for its world class waves.
