it IS San Diego, CA. where I spent the first half of my 6-year enlistment

it is west coast and the body of water is San Diego Bay, but I would consider San Francisco to be the "bay area"

specifically, front-and-center is the Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center Pacific (FLEASWTRACENPAC, marked in RED), in Point Loma, where all Sonar Technicians in the US Navy, including myself, have been trained since the closing of the Fleet Sonar School in Key West, FL in 1974.

next to it, in BLUE is the Bachelors' Officers Quarters (nice bayside digs, huh?)

across Harbor Drive is what used to be the Naval Training Center, San Diego (GREEN) and is where parts of the movie Top Gun was filmed, specifically, the bathroom scene after they sing Righteous Brothers was filmed in the Recruit Training Command HQ (YELLOW)

NTC/RTC Galley is circled in LIGHT BLUE. while I was going to boot camp, we would form up as a company outside on the asphalt (The Grinder) and wait for the orders to line up to eat. gave us time to gaze up at the million-dollar homes up on the hills of Point Loma

circled in PINK is the USS Recruit (TDE-1), which I've posted a picture of before

Looks pretty flat and somewhat smallish of a city so I'm guessing midwest or similar.....maybe lower MI....and there's a river (or lake?).....

Man, that's off the beaten path. After many dead-ends, including looking at all the state capitol buildings, I searched for county courthouses by state, and found Tippecanoe County's unique looking spire.

Sorry... Had posted it from my phone, and was searching for decent pictures on google since I haven't spent much time in Lafayette since before we had regular digital cameras or cell phone cameras.

Man, that's off the beaten path. After many dead-ends, including looking at all the state capitol buildings, I searched for county courthouses by state, and found Tippecanoe County's unique looking spire.

And it's NOT off the beaten path, unless you're going to talk about the alma mater that put Neil Armstrong and Eugene Cernan on the moon "off the beaten path". (The less said about the Purdue football team, the better, these days anyway.)

But yes, I had started to run out of ideas of what to post, and figured just MAYBE some fellow Boilermaker would recognize good old Lafayette from across the Wabash River. I didn't want to post pictures of West Lafayette / Purdue as it would be too easy to know it was a college town and narrow it down.

I'm not a Boilermaker, but the muddy river did put me in mind of the Wabash from my visits to relatives in Terre Haute!

It is, of course, a view from the Windsor, Ontario side heading toward Detroit. It actually says Ambassador Bridge on top, so yeah, had to go low-res on the pic!

That was a pretty good one. I noticed the spacing on the font at the top of the bridge and got it right away. I'm planning to run the Detroit-to-Windsor Half Marathon in a couple months, so if all goes well, I'll be right in that area.
