Wikipedia pic :D but been there twice.

About halfway around the globe :D If you stand on the beach where the amusement park is, you can shoot a pistol in the air so that the bullets land on, including this one, four different countries. Popular tourist resort though I wouldn't necessarily go there right now.

My pic server seems to have crashed as all my pics on all forums are gone. NO LOOKING, says it in the pic address now.

It's been up so long so this is the final and probly giveaway hint. Not africa. Not arabia. Southern tip of a V shaped country.

Last hint so we get this going. Don't want to just give it away...

Think... southern tip of a V shaped country... not africa not arabia.. and also kinda both...

One of the hotels in the picture is, or at least used to be about 15 years ago... the Sheraton Moriah Plaza.

Another pic from the hills. The city that's on the other side of the gulf is in an another country.

not my pic, google search WILL get you there, but don't do it

you get clues: there are two states in this pic, with 2 cities in each. any one of them will be acceptable, bonus points for the official name of the land mass in the center

That would be Davenport, IA on the left, Rock Island, IL on the left, with Moline, IL in the upper right & Rock Island Arsenal (AKA: Arsenal Island) in the center. Recognized it immediately as I used to live in Davenport.
Regards, GF.

how could you forget Bettendorf?

yes, this is the Quad Cities & Rock Island Arsenal, the largest government-owned weapons manufacturing arsenal in the United States

Rock Island Arsenal was built during the Civil War and was used as a prisoner of war camp for captured Confederates. More than 5000 prisoners were held, 1,964 of them died and were buried there. the graves were eventually moved to a new site across the street, so they could build officers' quarters next to the golf course

I used to live on the Arsenal, back in the 70s & yes, our house was one of those built on the original graveyard site. we used to camp out right next to the sign which stated that was the original site. spooky stuff. fortunately, this was before the movie Poltergeist came out, or else I probably would never have slept at all.

only one of the bridges into IL could handle the weight of our school bus (schools we went to were in Moline. I didn't actually go to MHS, was only in jr high) and when that bridge was closed for repairs, we had to go through IA to get to school

enough ancient history,
you're up, GF

ps, I understand that states have capitals, but is it really common to call it a capital city? It would feel weird in dutch provinces, only amsterdam is THE capital?

ps, I understand that states have capitals, but is it really common to call it a capital city?

Generally when someone here refers to a/the "Capital" (sans "city") they are referring to the national capital. From my experience I've usually heard people refer to state capitals as "Capital of Alaska" or "it's capital city".

But yeah it's a fair point. It's like when I talk to people and they reference a BAS System. A Building Automation System System. Or a BIM Model: Building Information Model Model.

Ugh.
