I try not to point out the RAMPANT spelling errors, but damn man, I just saw 'excepting' for 'accepting'! Let's not get into the 'their' and 'there' screw ups, 'affect' and 'effect' or 'alot' which isn't a word, or the overwhelming lack of ('s) to imply ownership in contractions.

What bugs me is when I see "would of" instead of "would've", "should of" instead of "should've", etc.

Each of us has different skills and abilities - for some it is definitely NOT spelling or grammar.

I would of pointed out some of there errors, accept my grammar told me if you cant say something nice, dont say anything at'all. :D

Hah. So their!

That's actually not true. It only works on word that are short or very common, because it is so easy to unscramble the letters quickly or recognize the scrambled words easily.

Unless you know the preamble well, you'll have a hard time reading this, and you'll have to stop at a few words to unscramble them:

We the ppoele of the Uetnid Stteas, in oedrr to from a mroe pcefret uoinn, esilbatsh jcitsue, irusne ditsemoc ttiliuqnary, pdivore for the cmoomn dcnefee, ptomore the garenel wraflee, and srucee the bnisselgs of ltrebiy to oevlesrus and our ptiretsoy, do oiadrn and esilbatsh tihs Coitutitsnon for the Uetind Saetts of Acirema.

I agree "buseace" does slow the paragraph down a little, but still amazed how easy it is to digest mispelled words.

Than and then, There and they're, here and hear, are and our ........
Typing or spelling? I think 30% typing and 70% spelling......

TURN ON YOUR SPELL CHECKER!!!!

I am tired of seeing brewer's ask about "Belgium beers".

I'm tired of "'s" being used to pluralize ...

And of periods going outside of quotation marks.

Actually, I'm tired of threads like this one. I have trouble understanding how, of all things, bad spelling is what prompts outrage.

Yeah, but some words can really throw off some sentences. For example, with 'than' and 'then', it can give a sentence a whole new meaning, and the reader may not know which one the writer is going for.

These are two completely separate concepts:
I would rather brew a pale ale than go to the LHBS to get ingredients for a brown ale.

Amen, brotha! Nice thread.

That made my eyes bleed.

Not just homebrewers either... I've seen several Pennsyltucky brewpubs mess this sh!t up.

PS: NO apostrophe in "brewer's."

God. Dammit.

I'm the biggest grammar and spelling Nazi going and even I think it's pretentious to have started a thread about it.

I don't... Not one bit. Many more should be started!!!

KILLS ME, to go to the label forum here, particularly Show Us Your Label and just see people advertising how uneducated they are.

The period outside the quotation marks is correct in this case!!

You didn't capitalize the P in Philadelphia. Nanner nanner boo boo. :mug:

I used to be a good speller until I started posting from my iPad. Its auto-correct is brutal.

Cripes, couldn't we have had another Carboy vs Bucket thread, or maybe a nice Liquid Yeast vs Dry Yeast argument?

We are not going to fix people's grammar and spelling problems on this site. It's ingrained in them during their formidable school years. It's way too late now.

Wow - read all this and the MOST PREVALENT abuse has been omitted thus far -

your going about it wrong...

YOU ARE, dammit. You're.

"your" does NOT apply to every situation!

When will the CDC address the rampant outbreak of ILLITERACY!?!?!

If you aren't using punctuation, grammar, or spelling correctly, you're illiterate*!

*there are shades of grey, but it makes me more happier** to reduce it to black and white for the sake of much more serious-sounding accusations

**sometimes I completely sh!t all over English just to remind myself to lighten up

Sometimes a comma makes all the difference.

Go help your uncle Jack, off the horse.

You missed one:

Go help your uncle, Jack, off the horse.

The comma is necessary to indicate that you are naming your uncle.
