I picked up a Horal Megablend 2013 today.
The 2009 I once had was amazing good , but the 2011 was not. Maybe the 11 was a bad bottle or something?
Any thoughts about the 2013 anyone? Never tasted this one before so I'm very curious about it.

'11 I had was awesome, and I remember having a kinda meh 2013 and 2009. All of my 2015s have been really good, hopefully you have a great one!

I've never ordered from BIAB, when they have crates for sale, do they actually send the entire crate all packed up nice n tight?
Yes, they do. I ordered a case of of boon 25cl geuze bottles a few weeks ago and it showed up packed that way, styrofoam dividers between each bottle and zero casualties.

Hommage, mags, krieklambik and intense red up at etre now.
Thanks!!

I resisted the urge to drop 100€ on two bottles of beer. Is this what being an adult feels like?
If it's any consolation, one of them is closer in size to a bucket...

I broke down and bought the hommage though.

Sorry to rehash this discussion but what is it about a magnum that makes it that much better than 2 75cl bottles next to each other?

When I was at 3F, the woman working told me that she thinks that they age better. I bought 'em for the novelty. I'd buy a magnum again if I were at 3F/Cantillon, but I wouldn't pay $60 or whatever the Belgian shops charge. Would much rather save the $ and buy 75cl bottles....

Can I ask what aging “better” means?

From what I’ve been told, theoretically the flavor development is slower with the larger format. The greater the volume of liquid, the less fluctuation of temperature. Although if your cellar is temp controlled, I’d imagine there would be little benefit.

Also they age better since you don’t randomly grab a geuze mag for a Tuesday night dinner.

plebe.

In all honesty I buy and am ok with the premium for magnums for novelty.

A buddy's birthday? Show up at his house with a magnum.

4th of July party? Pop a magnum.

It's just ******* fun. Sorry.

On top of this the percentage of surface area of the liquid exposed in the neck of the bottle is much lower slowing down potential oxidation.

Plus they make your penis larger.

**** yea to this.

Id drink everything from a magnum if possible. Magnum to the face reps count as bicep curls.

That's like asking, "what's better, two 5-inch dicks, or one giant veiny 10-inch dick". I guess it's all personal preference, right?

Personally, I bought one for the novelty, on top of the fact that the few A&G blends that I've had have all been delicious. And because I'm a sucker.

Don't know or care what kind of sad life you are living but I open a mag of geuze every night.

My only experience with a gueuze magnum was 2015 Cantillon about a month ago, and it was some of the best cantillon gueuze I've ever had. Much better than the 06 375 I drank last year, and much better than most of the young cantillon gueuze I've had. Not sure if being in the magnum had anything to do with that, could have just been a good run.

I swear to god you people are just trying to make my head explode (although at least the thing about temperature is true, it's almost certainly irrelevant, but at least it's true!).
