Gueuze week night 4

Beatification b7: One of my absolute favorite wild ales, this beer has never disappointed me. Way more sour than pretty much any of the gueuzes, just as complex and there is a really great funk layered in back it takes the back seat to the bright clean sour fruitiness. Lemon, a bit of peach and mango. Oddly I picked up a bit of leather too which was strange but it worked.

Beatification b6: Everything thats great about b7 but funkier and smoother, effing delicious.

Herfst: Darkest gueuze I've ever seen and poured almost completely still. So funky, oaky, earthy and interesting, this had more flavor than just about any other beer so far and is still somehow the smoothest and mellowest. No carb was not an issue for me as I loved the mouthfeel on it, this was probably the glass I emptied the quickest.

This tasting really validated my love for Beatification. Herfst was easily a top 3 gueuze for me and I enjoyed Beat b6 just as much - both insanely complex, funky and delicious with Beat on the bright fruity side and Herfst on the earthy side.

What? That's really weird, normally Herfst corks put someone's eye out. I've never had a bottle that was anything less than massively overcarbed.

We opened a flat Herfst last night courtesy of lurchingbeast. While the lack of carbonation was disappointing it was still a very impressive beer as always.

Yeah once I took the wrapper off, I saw the cork was sticking out about a centimeter more than it should have been. Lucky for me the beer itself seemed to be intact and I happen to love still lambic.

Out of curiosity are you drinking these solo, or splitting with one or multiple folks? I ask because I can't imagine drinking 2 beats and 750 Gueuze in a sitting alone.

Last Herfst I opened was flat and a little oxidized. Still a 4.0/5.0 beer, but disappointing next to the rest of the seasons we opened at the same time.

Correct. Had one in February last year and it was magical. Had it again 2 months later and it was flat and a total dud. Just didn't hold up next to any of the other seasons we had that night.

yeah the one we did in November was just like the one from that night last February. Seems like maybe bottle variation has shown up a little- or maybe with age, a lot of bottles have traveled too much.

Released a few weeks ago in limited quantities at the brewery if you're asking about 3F.

a lot of bottles have traveled too much.

This is a huge deal to me now. Finding 'limited' lambic that hasn't been passed around like a collection plate is tough, and provenance is everything to me. If I can't trace the ownership or it's more than a few years old at this point I don't really bother too much.

A friend of mine just brought me 3x St Lam and 3x LPG for a total of 54€ from Brussels... Looks like I got some trade leverage again.
