I bought/reserved 3 bottles of Framboos on Etre in Monday. Each bottle was a seperate purchase. I was going to let the dust settle and then add a few bottles and ask them to ship it. I got busted today and they refunded two of my purchases.

So you're saying there's still hope?

The two boxes that I thought had cleared LAX customs last week were in fact sent back to Belgium and should be arriving back at Etre in the next couple days. That makes three boxes rejected by LAX in the last 4 months, with none accepted through LAX in that same time frame. JFK has been fine for me as well when boxes happened to get routed through there. One of the boxes sent back was marked in the USPS system as "Cannot be delivered as addressed" - I called in on that one and USPS has an open investigation, so I'm curious to hear what they come up with. The other box just silently got shipped back, hopefully there will be something on the box that tells Etre what happened.

I'd be really curious to see if anyone has any tangible advice or ways of alleviating the problem. I realize that buying beer online and having it shipped here is in a legal gray area at best (probably not even that, but let's be optimistic), but I've never had issues like this in the past. If it's something where a fee could be paid or using a different carrier would bypass the issue (eg, if USPS is the issue rather than customs), I'd probably be willing to pay a little extra to guarantee delivery and avoid the hassle of having to ship boxes twice.
When it "cleared" customs at LAX how did u find out it was getting shipped back to Belgium, was that on the tracking or did u make an inquiry? I have been waiting on an update on tracking on a few boxes from JFK that both said at first retained at customs unclear reason and then said cleared customs but has not updated in awhile. Always figured in past once it "cleared" customs I was safe but based on this above not so sure now...

Over/under on people that immediately went to etre upon reading this: 75 (I'm guilty)

I have a box almost ready to go at etre. I've sent a couple emails and had no response. Anyone else hearing back from them lately?

Sometimes it takes about a week for Jonathan to respond. I wouldn't worry if it's been less time than that.

Thanks. Most of my communication with them has been pretty timely. It has been ~5-6 days at this point so it just seemed out of the ordinary.

Johnathan usually responds within 2-4 non-business days (in my experience). I imagine they receive a lot of emails though, and I've always wondered how many employees they have. I remember when just Robert was answering emails. It seemed like Johnathan appeared and took over the bulk of customer service around mid/late 2013.

If there's something maybe I could help you with I'd be glad to. I've also found through experience that when you do fill up the box for sure and ask for a shipping invoice, MAN do they fire off an invoice very quickly. They like gettin paid ;)

I remember one time I didn't pay my shipping invoice for 2 days and they sent me a sternly worded email telling me to pay up. Lambic Mafia.

Thanks for the feedback again.

I'll just sit tight. The main problem is I have a gift cert/coupon to spend from a refund but I'm not 100% sure how much I can still fit in the box at this point. So I'm trying to get a couple bits of info and hopefully I don't miss out on anything good in the meantime.

fwiw I've been told from etre on a few occasions they could ship 10x750ml & 2x375ml or 8x750ml & 5x375ml

What's the best HORAL Mega Blend? 11 or 13?

I think '11 is better than '13 right now, but '13 is starting to get interesting. The same happened with the '11, it was good right out of the gate, but lacked depth at first and wasn't perfectly cohesive. With the quantity of different lambics used in these blends, I guess it just takes more time to become a great gueuze.

Also, both are far more consistent than the '09. I have had a dozen of each the '11 and '13 so far and never had a bad bottle. Both the '11 and '13 are quite "soft" and very easy drinking.

I have not consumed a dozen bottles of any of the vintages, but my much smaller sample size lines up exactly with what Tom says.

Dat 3 Fonteinen 1998 Oude Geuze. Can't wait for my birthday to roll around next month. Compton25, MChand2 and I are going to have one hell of a bottle share...

Is there any de cam that is recent that is really good? It seems like I've only heard bad about it.

Other than a still framboise I had I haven't had anything else

The Lambiek Special and the Oude Kriek are both outstanding. Older bottles of the Oude Lambiek are also excellent - I have not been happy with the most recent bottling(s?) of the Oude Lambiek.

All of it except recent Oude Lambiek. Also the two year old (it's bottled at three) Lambiek I tried from barrel at the brewery was good. Framboise and Kriek I tried from barrel and tank were amaaaazing.
