I've got a unopened case of 2010 Hanssen Kriek 750ml bottles that I've been meaning to dig out and try. Maybe I'll so that this week. Their kriek had always been love/hate with me. It seems to quickly get to a point where it's unbearably sour.

I had it once back in 2011 and it was completely flat. Does that ever happen? After falling in love with the gueuze, I picked up the oude kriek recently and will do a blind tasting in the near future.

I don't know that I've ever had a Hanssens Kriek that I would say was really well carbonated.

I had a 2012 a bout a month ago and it was pretty welb carbonated. Not like a geuze but it was really good.

I pulled one of the 2010s I have #forscience purposes later tonight. We'll see, but I'll bet it's mostly flat. Fingers crossed i isn't though. I've said it before, Hanssens is like the Fantome of the lambic world. Always unpredictable.

It's been my experience that most of their fruit lambics are either flat or very low carbonation.

I had a 375ml bottle of the Hanssens Oude Kriek (bottled Jan 2013) last week that I thought was delicious, but was bracingly sour, to a point where the last few sips were a chore to put down. To their credit, the Kriek came through very nicely, both in the aroma and the taste. Very little carbonation.

anyone know what the deal is with the hanssens oudbeitje with the 2000 label on the front? i have seen it without the 2000 reference but i imagine it can't actually be that old. think i bought it in 2011 based on the box it came out of. was it brewed in 2000 and aged? i have no clue when it comes to hanssens variations.

I bought one of these several years ago (probably around 2011 also...) and wondered the same thing.

My brother said he found the same and that it was amazing compared to the fresh one. I've looked at the labels on every oudbeitje I've seen from then on to no avail. At least this seems to confirm his story as he probably bought it around 2011 as well.

I am working from very fuzzy memories here but I believe that Oudbeitje was the only one I ever had, so I couldn't compare to other "vintages," but I remember it being mostly flat and very sour. Good but not amazing. Again, very fuzzy memories. I bought and drank that beer while on vacation and did not take notes.

i liked it enough to buy 2 bottles. and i liked it waaaay more than the ones without the 2000 designation.

Oudbeitje was first blended in 2000 with a blend of Boon and Girardin lambic. In May of 2000, 150 kg of Belgian strawberries were added to every 600 liter barrel of two year old lambic. Oudbeitje was first bottled in March 2001 and continues to be a regular presence in the Hanssens lineup.

The "Master's Collection Limited Edition 2000" label is reportedly the first commercial bottling of Oudbeitje, and the label may have been used for several vintages after that. Picture below is a "Master's Collection Limited Edition 2006" label as well. Since the beer was initially made for the American market, no other number dating system was used on the labels; only lot numbers. Though it is only available commercially in 37,5cl bottles, B. United International has undated black and white 75cl labels as well. To add to the discrepancy, the bottle pictured below with the black and white label is a 37,5cl bottle. Further research is needed.

Anecdotally I will say that I have seen the "2000" label for sale as recently as 2012 on shelves in various places.

Does anyone know anything about Boon Vat 77? I have a couple Vat 44 but just heard about 77 for the first time today. I never saw this for sale anywhere and it has no BA listing and only 1 RB review...just wondering what the deal is and how attainable this beer is.

It's brand new and part of, I guess it's a series now, Monoblend Series. It is 90% oude lambiek from Vat 77 (a really old oak cask) and 10% Boon jonge lambiek. Looking around it looks like they're saying that the oude portion of the lambiek was brewed on 10/26-27/2011. I'm sure it'll be available online at some point.

Yeah I was assuming it would get around to the online stores but it has a 2013 bottled on date so I wondered if it had already gone up and I'd just missed it. Thanks.

Being bottled just about a year ago, it's right on schedule for release now. I'll try to find some myself eventually

If I didn't have to trade to Australia I'd legitimately be interested in trying that.... #forscience

some of his sours are actually pretty decent. Some egyptian sourdough beers and all that "eh" ****, but I've enjoyed the recent ones I've tried. However he releases about 60 beers a year so I stopped trying to keep track of them.
