Is Timmermans draft OG sweetened? Never had bottled timmermans but tried their gueuze on draft and it was surprisingly sweet. There was slight funk present but it was much sweeter than any oude gueuze I’ve had in my memory.

Hm, i haven't heard that. I just took my allocated keg of Oude Gueuze. I'll report when i tap it, and i'll reach out to the importer for info.

For the Tilquin? Empire in Kingston - they have 750's of the regular, Mure, and now the Groseille Rouge.
Lucky. Here in New York — particularly in NYC — all the new releases have basically come and went upon the day's arrival per shop. I've unfortunately yet to hear of any drop in the suburbs.

Drank a “17/18 season” Iris on saturday that was an absolute revelation to me.

Iris has always been one of my favorite loons right beside gilloise and bruocsella. Typically, I drink these bottles with several years on them but now im thinking ive might have done them a great disservice by sitting on them. (At least these dry hopped or cold hopped bottles.)

This “fresh” Iris was so intensely hoppy it was like I was drinking a lambic/mint tea concoction. Not hoppy as far as bitterness goes just crazy flavorful hop taste/aroma. Lambic.info tells me Iris is brewed with Hallertau and then after ~2 years maturation it is hopped again with Saaz. Id love to know if Jean and crew sway from that protocol at all because if I didnt know any better id say they doubled down on the Hallertau and skipped the Saaz. Fk, id love to buy a case or more of that bottling.

I've never understood why people **** on Iris. It's one of my favorites for sure. I've never been able to sit on a bottle long enough to have it "aged" though.

I don't think it's that straightforward, after all Rose is more available but waaaay more loved. I don't personally care for Iris. Bruocsella, or CdC largely because they have a strange bitter/soapy character that I find off-putting. I get the same thing from the young lambic you get at Cantillon, so I assume it's something that will ferment out but doesn't really in those ones (or it could be multiple things, but I have liked very old Bruocsella so that's part of why I think it's a fermentable).

In general, not for you specifically, it also because raspberry is a far more easily accepted flavor? Less nuance to understand?

Etre loon proxy box landed on Saturday. Bottom was soggy, and it looked like a large man had sat on it - the sides were crushed. I was fully expecting a couple casualties, but per normal, the bottles were wrapped to survive the apocalypse, and there was ample padding above & below each bottle slot to accommodate the "fat guy sitting" portion of clearing customs. Etre will continue to get my business - love how much time and effort they put in to making sure each of their shipments are protected.

On another note, checked in on Tilquin ^2 13/14 collar bottled 3/2016... I initially felt it was a bit too sharp a year or so ago, but this weekend it had a nice woody prominence, picking up a little funk however still a tad sour, and a markedly thicker, slick body with minimal carbonation when swished, sort of reminiscent of GCB if it had a bit of bubbles. Definitely a different batch than 11/13 ^2, but b2 is turning into something unique and enjoyable :)
