I love this stuff, old bottle. So I believe Cantillon in the mix? Regardless, never had a bad bottle. No gushing either.

Well you just made it sound like there's supposed to be something different between OG and OGV, sorry. Even if they were the same date (2012, for example), to me they're the exact same blend/beer.

I guess the context of my post would have made more sense if I quoted earlier disucssion in this thread where I mentioned some folks being influenced by simply seeing the words "vintage" or the inflated price/rarity skewing opinions of OGV over OG.

When doing this side by side tasting, I secretly wanted the OG to dominate the OGV but that wasnt the case this time. Its still not an apples to apples comparison since these brews were bottled almost a year apart and were stored in different cellars. Fun little sampling, highly recommended.

I was a part of that conversation. I learned that while the couple OGVs I have had were stellar, that should not be taken as an indication other vintages are necessarily consistent at all. The process by which OG "becomes" OGV is ambiguous at best and that implies there is no reasonable expectation for consistency of the beer from one batch/bottle to another. Not all OGV bottles are necessarily even similar. Some might be held back as OGV for favorable aging potential, some might be held back because it just needs more time than the rest of it's intended release. Some may even be little tiny OGV Loeriks, carbing up spontaneously, after schedule. Glad to keep learning.
 
In other news... here are some lambic thoughts from my weekend.

I was never really a big fan of St Lamvinus. Each time I had it, I felt it was too acidic. I got to try a 2013 bottle this weekend and it was a glorious integration and poundable brew. It truely makes me wonder if the times I had it before was/were outlier off batches or if this one was more tame than most. Im now ISO for science.

50n4e b2 was everything I expected it to be.

Zenne was decanted and consumed without the addition of gummy bears. Christ does that brew got some ripe blue cheese stank to it.

Bierpallieters was again a show stopper for me. I feel bad for the folks who got bunk bottles of this and im actually curious and want to get more to see if my luck is really that ****** or what. When I took the cage off, the cork removed itself and the brew gushed. I saw some others recently had a bottle and complained it was flat and malty which was polar to my last 2 experiences. Id love to gather some data and see if good verse bad bottles have any numerical correlation. The bottle opened this weekend that was amazing was #42 and the others in the group compared it to the likes of blauw.

2013 St. Lam didn't impress me "fresh" either, but the last couple bottles I've opened recently have been unbelievably good. A little time did that year's batch tremendous good
 
I searched the thread for this, but couldn't find mention. In any event, the De Troch Peche Lambic was horrendous. Sickly sweet and sticky peach syrup tasting. Not good at all.
 
The Girardin 1882 I opened on Friday was very disappointing. A bit sweet with low carbonation and not a whole lot going on.
 
Is anyone in here familiar with Montreal? Are there any bars/restaurants that have lambic for on-site consumption with food?

Le Saint Bock often has some lambic on deck. I believe they had 2011 Golden blend and '13 Iris last time I was there. Don't forget the Poutine!

Pretty sure there's a place on Saint-Denis near Rue Ontario that occasionally gets cantillon. There are a handful of places that will have Hill saisons if all else fails.
 
Yes, Le Saint Bock has dem loons and while they're decently priced the selection is limited. No idea when they get stuff in but it was just a couple standards (RDG, classic, kriek) and they were out of two of those.

Vice et Versa has been reported to have HF but very limited amounts, beers, and pricey ($40 a bottle of Arthur/Everett)....

My recommendation is to skip the lambic chase and try out some Quebec brews. Lots of good stuff going on.
 
Yea $40 is the going rate for the Hill stuff. Loic, Larry's, and Vin Papillon usually have them as well and have amazing food. Given the taxes involved in getting those bottles there I think the price is reasonable ($30USD).

Thanks all. I've already got reservations for Joe Beef and plan on hitting up Vin Papillon (but for the natural wine, actually).

I'll definitely be checking out DdC too, and Saint Bock now as well.
VP is the best.....one of my favorite places to drink wine (and eat) anywhere on the planet. Enjoy.
 
Anyone have experience in resolving shipping errors with BiaB? I received a box that contained the wrong bottles and I suspect is someone else's order. With international shipping charges being so expensive, is there anything they can actually do to rectify the problem? I have sent a message to them but heard nothing back yet.

how long ago did you send the message? remember its like 10PM there now. I have heard of this happening before and If I recall they will resend you the correct package. If the other person would need the package sent back to europe they will likely let you keep it.

I've had a problem. They were very understanding and made it right.
