what would you rather have a keg mini fridge or chest freezer? i am going back and forth between the three.. so which one?? would you pick..
It really is going to depend on multiple factors.
Do you want to serve more than one type of beer from your unit at the same time?
Do you want to buy a temperature control device and build a collar for a keezer?
Do you want to build the kegerator from a mini-fridge or buy a ready made unit?
Where will the unit go in your home and will your wife/girlfriend/partner agree to having it there.
It depends on a number of things. If you just want a small elegant system that fits in the living room, I'd go with mini fridge. If you're putting it someplace where space is plentiful and a large chest freezer won't look out of place, then go with a chest freezer. Another consideration is if you want towers for your taps. Most people just build a collar for chest freezers. If you want towers, you'll have to figure out a way to either hinge it sideways or give it enough room in the back. With a mini-fridge you just open the door...but it holds fewer kegs.
I chose a mini-fridge because I wanted something small that had a tower. It only holds 2 beers on tap, but it looks nice and does the job. It's also big enough to hold a carboy when using as a temperature controlled fermentation/lagering chamber.
