JZ Scottish Export

Has anyone brewed Jamil's Scottish export? I am wondering when he has done to use white labs cal Ale yeast and not a scottish ale yeast. I am wondering if that is genuine and appropriate.

I just listened to the really old brewing with style podcast episode on Scottish ales yesterday! In that he says he uses cal ale because it’s clean and he found that the Scottish ale yeasts could sometimes bring a “funk” or weird ester to the beer. I’ve never brewed a Scottish export before, but I’m usually a stickler for sourcing ingredients and using appropriate yeast strains. Then again, he won many many awards and I have won zero!
