I tasted my first brew (John Palmers pale ale) after two weeks in primary, when I was bottling. Tasted OK, lacked body but the bitterness was there and I could taste the hops. You wouldn't want to drink too much though.

A week after bottling I tried it again - it's got some fizz, not huge, it seems much more bitter now - but also has a sweet aftertaste, which isn't too pleasant. I am assuming this is the priming sugar still not feremented out. It certainly tastes like beer though, other than the sweetness I think it's not that far off a decent commercial bottled beer.

Anyway - as I said, just some observations... I'll leave it alone for a couple more weeks now.

I tried my lager after only 3 days in the bottle, and it was totally flat. It wasn't sweet though, but with a lager I wouldn't expect sweet, even from the priming sugar. I only did it because I didn't get a taste at bottling time. I expected a partial bottle at the end, but as luck would have it I just topped off the last bottle when it ran out.
