Brewing a Irish red soon will be my third one wanted to do something a little diffrent this time so here's the list tell me what you think (going for a malty Hoppy red)

6lb Munich malt syrup (my first time using it ,heard it provides a chewy malty flavor)
1lb amber DME
.25 aromatic malt
.50lb crisp amber malt
1lb crystal malt 60L
.50oz simcoe -50min
1oz Glacier -20min
1 oz progress - 5min
.25 teaspoon Irish moss -10min
White labs Irish ale yeast

looks pretty good. I've never used progress hops but i like your hop schedule. the big late hop additions will give you a real smooth and aromatic bitterness.

Yeah I wanted the hops to help balance out a real malty base. I haven't used simcoe or progress before but I have had some good bears with simcoe hops in them and the progress sound like it would be real nice with what I was going for

Most Irish Reds have a small addition of black grains, usually roasted barley, sometimes chocolate or black patent. You might get close to the color you want with the 60L crystal, but it might not scream Irish Red.

It is all in what YOU want to brew of course. Your recipe ought to make damn fine beer all the same.

Yeah I usually put a little roasted barley in their but I was thinking of trying a little something diffrent . I still might though and I might through in some nor amber DME or Munich malt syrup because I want the ABV to be around 6.5 -7 wich I know us a little high for the style but like I said I want to try something a little diffrent.
Cheers

I would forget the light malt extract and get three pounds of munich malt for the flavor malts. It will also give you some starches. I would also take out the crystal malt and use some caravienne.

Otherwise keep it the same...just add more Simcoe...Simcoe makes everything better.

At old world light DME? The only extract I was using us amber and the Munich . I like the idea of more simcoe might throw the other half oz in somewhere.
