I have a BIPA that's been in primary for 2 weeks now and am wondering if I should try to coax a few more points out of it or leave it be.

OG was 1.072 and it's been sitting at 1.018 for 2 readings/5 days. Is that about right or would it benefit from being lower? What's a generally accepted target FG range for IPAs?

My recipe:

5gal. Batch - full boil starting at 6.5 gal.

3lbs. Briess Gold DME (70 min.)
6.6lbs. Briess Gold LME (added at flameout)

6oz. Crystal 40
6oz. Crystal 77
12oz. Carafa II Special

2oz. Chinook (70)
1oz. Nugget (60)
.5oz. Simcoe (15)
.5oz Simcoe (10)
1oz. Simcoe (0)
1oz. Amarillo (0)
1oz. Simcoe (dryhop)
1oz. Amarillo (dryhop)

What yeast? You're at about 74% AA, you might be done at that gravity... Personally, I would hope for it to be lower, and it could very well go a touch lower with a little help, be after 2 weeks that might be all you get...

Ty racking into secondary and see if anything starts back up.

By BJCP guidelines anything above 1.070 can be an imperial. So that means anything 1.020 or under is within guidelines. A standard ipa tops out at an OG of 1.075 and up to 1.018 FG. My black ipa started at 1.090 and finished at 1.020 and I love it. Some might think its too sweet but it's all about personal tastes. I used S-05 and that was as low as it was gonna go. It sat for over a month in the fermenter.

With all the extract I think your done fermenting. When I was doing extract batches I usually would finish around 1.015-1.020 you could wait to see if it comes down more but 5days still the same reading I think your done.

Thanks for all the input.

I pitched a 1.5L Wyeast 1056 starter, fermented at 60F then ramped up to 68F after 8 days. It'll be in the primary another week at least for dry hopping so I suppose it could drop a little. Think rousing the yeast would help at this point? The sample tasted ridiculously good to me and I won't be disappointed if it stays where it is, just always on the quest to make better beer :mug:

Considering you have 6.6 lbs of LME hitting 75% apparent attenuation is stellar. Normally I would suggest some tricks, but it sounds like it is great how it is, so I wouldn't mess with it. If you get another point or two while dry hopping that's a bonus, but what you have looks splendid.

Wow, that's good news. I think I'll just cold crash, dry hop, and leave well enough alone. If I get a point or 2, great, if not the beer will still be absurdly delicious. Thanks for the input!
