My mom just started her first batch of Apfelwein Sunday (1/10/10)

Bottling my 5 on friday.. i added molasses, brown rice sugar and honey with the dextrose... so:

15,366 + MrPeaches's 5 (15,371) + my 5= 15,376

This is approximately 70 tons... Seems Mr.Wort has created a phenomenon..
So i figure, either Ed works for the american assosiation for apples, or it tastes really good... guess i'l know the answer in 3.5 weeks

15,376 gallons x 8.34 lbs/gallon = 128,312.72 lbs of apfelwein

128,312.72 lbs x 1 ton/2,000 lbs = 64.15636 tons

15,376 gallons x 1 drum/54.5 gallons (incl. a bit of headspace) = 282.128 drums

Assuming ~$22/5 gallon batch...

15,376 gallons x $22/5 gallons = $67,654.40 spent by members of this forum making apfelwein.

Wow...those are some pretty hefty statistics!

We ship tank wagons out from the plant I work at about once or twice a day, at about 6,000 gallons apiece. So we're somewhere between 2 and 3 tanker trucks full of apfelwein. :cross:

Even scarier number; from pressing (with just a small press, so not the most efficient) we get about 1gal/18lbs of apples so 15,548 x 18 = 279,864lbs of apples.
