Hi,

I intend to enter two of my homebrews to a local competition, any type of style can be entered.

The first one is a dark mild with 3,4% alc a bit toward to the roasty side (total of 9% of from dehusked carafa, chocolate ebc800 and chateau cafe malts) with additional vanilla and french medium oak chips extract (latter is just a touch that is almost not sensible)

The second brew is a typical saison with ginger and elderflower added to the boil, the ginger is really prominent while the elderflower is lurking in the background only. Not sure if this one can be entered as a normal saison.

Would appreciate your proposals. Thanks!

33B - Specialty wood-aged beer

30A - Spice, herb, or vegetable beer - If the ginger is very prominent, it would probably be a detraction for the standard saison entry.

One word of advice, anything that's in there but not really detectable, don't bother listing it as an ingredient. If you list it and the judges can't taste it, you might get dinged points. In the first one, if the vanilla is noticeable, I'd probably enter it as a spice herb vegetable beer (cat 30A). Remember to list the base style. For the Saison, I think you could probably get away with entering it as a Saison (25B) as some spice additions are appropriate.

33B for #1 might be good since you'll often get vanilla character from oak. That would free up 30A for your Saison.

Thanks, I think now I get it and will enter accordingly! Cheers
