Hi,
Can someone help me identify this apple? I'm not good at apple varieties.

Yoop? Thoughts?

Haven't tried it. We've got wild trees here and I want to pick some for wine.

Taste it- it should be good! We have a couple of varieties of crabapples that could be that size, maybe a bit bigger. The Dolgo variety is tart/sweet and spicy, and makes great wine. The centennial variety is blander and without the "spicy" notes. A mix of those is a really great wine!

You want the apple to be tart for good wine, I've found.

There are hundreds of varieties, so it might be hard to nail down what they are but if you taste it, you could probably guess the type (not the actual variety) and deal pretty well with them.

All I know is.... bumper crop of Cortland and Macintosh apples from NY should make for some epic cider this year.
