Ok, rookie mistake. Bought a kit of shallow grave porter and for got the whirfloc tab for clarifying during the boil. Can i still add it to the primary fermenter if i treat it like priming sugar? i.e boil for 5 min, let it cool, add to fermnetor?)

Interesting question. It needs to be boiled to do its thing, so adding right to the fermenter - worthless. But boiling and then adding right away... Wonder how long it continues to do what it's supposed to do?

I will predict that once it cools it is done being effective, which means there's no point, but will state plainly that I don't know for sure.

I think you'll be fine, there's just a little more trub than normal in the fermenter. Won't make much difference especially for a porter.
