Just wrapping up the Brau kaiser's enhanced double Decoction for my first Decoction mash ever. Laborious, but so far all has gone smoothe. About to lauter, the wait for 9/29 to drink it!
Yeah it's a buttload of work, but I love it. Doing 10gal of triple decoction Czech Pilsner tomorrow. Going to have my 10yo work on stirring occasionally so I can take breaks.
Love my typos when I'm on the phone! Did a 10 gal Oktoberfest today. In all, it went well except that I think I estimated my decoction volumes on the low side - even after adding ~20% and additional water after the first decoction. But, since my mash tun is direct fire, I just raised the temp and went on with life. Hit my OG a point higher and got 77% efficiency. Looking forward to the next ale that will seems like a snap!
