I loved that Sour Diesel Saison. First time at the brewery the other day, been thinking about going back ever since. The relative straight line to Rare Barrel is nice too.

It will be interesting to see what becomes of Fieldwork in a few years. Their aspirations seem...high.

I like that they're trying something different instead of cluttering shelves with more beers / cans that will get ignored, personally.

I stopped by the tasting room earlier tonight and was surprised by how packed it was. It's really, really popular. If their satellite location instills a sense of community and going-out in Napa, more power to them.

That being said, I wasn't blown away by what I tried on tap.

Keep in mind they've announced a satellite location in Sacramento as well within the last few months. They opened what...a little over a year ago? They appear to be well heeled and seem to have their mind set on quick expansion. Not saying that's good or bad...just pointing out the direction they seem to be moving.

Honestly though, if they started canning they would kill. The canned beer options around here are basically non-existent.

There are cans, they're just... Ft. Point, Headlands, 21st Amendment, and then MT and Pizza Port, which are great, but not always fresh and only in SF proper. Agree Fieldwork would kill.

As high as their cashflow :). Brewer lets the owner steer the ship. Brewers keeps the wind in the sails.

I wasn't implying that they couldn't afford it, I was just taking a jab at Napa ;)

But it sounds good to me! So many brewers are absolutely godawful when it comes to the business side of things, so it's great to hear they're keeping things separate and productive (as much as they can).

Consider me another +1 for local places to drink that make great beer and potentially canning some of their stuff. Wish we had more of those on the Peninsula.

I wish them well on their ventures and I hope they can keep the beer quality where it is. I would have expanded to San Jose (more $$, zero quality breweries) vs. Sacramento (less $$, at least a couple) but that's just my uneducated two cents.

The south bay gets no love, and I think that's largely because no one wants to hang out in the south bay. Rightfully so, but when the best brewery in 8+ miles is Faultline brewing, there's certainly room for improvement (and thus opportunity).

Yeah, plus all the San Jose neckbeards are busy swarming to Sante every chance they get.

I would say that Mission Creek brewing (brewery at Whole Foods in Downtown San Jose on the Alameda) far exceeds what Faultline has to offer, and IMO would be the best brewery the South Bay has to offer at least compared to Faultline. The brewer Guy Cameron used to brew for RR and most of his IPA's are on point. Give them a try.

But I would love for another quality brewery to open up in the South Bay.

I used 8+ miles for a reason ;)

Hey man, Sacramento people have extra money for beer with all the money we save on rent.

Coconut Milk DIPA will be available some time this memorial day weekend. Growlers and crowlers available for limited time if I understand correctly.

Could also be that they felt San Jose was already kind of a covered zone as it's still technically Bay Area with Berkeley. Also, their lease will be obviously be way cheaper in Sac.
The rent in Sacramento has increased to the point that it's not worth living there anymore. Downtown/midtown, at least. Even the "close in" neighborhoods (the various Parks) are getting pricey. Sac and SF were tied for second-highest rent increase percentage in the country, behind only... Portland, which is where I live now. Of course.

Still cheaper in Portland than Sacramento.

It may be rising fast in Sacramento, but it's still hella cheaper than SJ.
