I saw Treebs commented on the instagram post, but Flossmoor is putting a new batch of Hi-Fi in barrels today. If they continue their recent tradition of releasing the Friday before DLD, I hope this is not this year's beer. Two months in barrels?

Previous Hi-Fi Rye releases have been in or around February as far as I remember.

Putting Hi-Fi Rye in Woodford Reserve Barrels....

Well that is interesting, Flossmoor (or the head brewers at the time) have typically resisted re-brewing previous brewer's signature beers.

I wonder what Shimkos thinks about this...

(Apparently I was slow on the draw on this one, sorry folks)

That's correct So if they're following that logic then it SHOULD be in barrels until about January or February of next year which is A-OK in my book. I really hope they don't pull a Barrel Aged No.4 and pull it out the week before DLD. That will be a travesty.

Wasn't van wyk the original brewer and shimkos was the rebrewer of B2?

I thought Hi Fi Rye and the subsequent barrel aged versions were an all Shimkos venture, but its possible I've got that mixed up.

Alum can you verify?
Or was shimkos B1 and Barron was B2. Feel like their had to be some brewer overlap in the three years.

I'm pretty sure Shimkos brewed B1 and B2, however he left before B2 was officially released so he never saw it through.

ya that might be it, but remember B1 was non-BA'd the year before it came out. Was he the originator of the original? Actually crunching numbers he might have been, maybe I'm getting wooden hell confusion.

EDIT - googling...MVW leaves Mar. 2009, Hi-Fi Rye debuts in Feb. 2010. I'm wrong. I forget the days when brewers actually hung around more than 2 years at FS.

At least we all know Van Wyk was Wooden Hell and there's no confusion there. Man, I wish Oakshire was actually a good brewery. So much promise and hype, so much deflation.

This makes me happy. Still have one last bottle of B2. Had one about 8 months ago and it was still really nice. Would definitely go get the next batch.

Good to know this isn't for a very upcoming release.

I'm only speculating. I'm hoping Flossmoor won't **** this up like No.4.

Haven't had a B2 in about a year or so, but last time I had them all side by side B1 was still drinking like a champ. A little better than B2.

Vav said on BA that fresh Abrasive hits the warehouse this weekend for rollout next week. My goal is to not kill my 4 pack on a Friday night by myself in my basement like last year.

It's already a month and a half old....

..is how I will justify drinking it all.

All this talk of flossmoor made me be a good son and take my parents out. They had 4 barrel aged beers but my god. Pullman reserve tasted like water, a barrel aged panama red that tasted like barrel aged copper water, no 4 B2 because it was so good the first time and a barrel aged IPA which has never been executed to my knowledge. But I'll stop being a snob *******, they did have a really good dunkel. WTF happened to that place?

Serious post was serious.

No more coffee Eugene plus the guy at the brewery said it'll be a looooong time before it returns. Balls. Fist City was tasty. Can't beat $15 Very Mad Cow bombers. Stopped by Half Acre and snagged some DDC at 3PM within 5 min. Solid work trip.
The brew pub had Coffee Eugene on tap yesterday - I had a pint. I also had a snifter of Very Mad Cow, a snifter of Rise, a pint of nitro'd Brixton Bitter, and a pint of Wil's Red. My head hurts.

anyone go to brew of hearts yesterday?
I was there. middlebrow yelled at me for calling out Chicago saison producers.

It was a good time, but quite crowded and loud. The Brooklyn "Kriek" was super disappointing. My favorites of the afternoon probably were Hop Drank from Transient and the Raspberry Robyn, which was a touch too sweet, but quite nice.

I was there with the wife, it was a blast. Kimbell won best in show and anyone who disagrees can suck it. Great seeing everyone we know pouring, performing and what not. All good friends and Won's events have come a long way from the backyard homebrew BBQs we used to throw way back when...
