Damn, I forgot the Transient re-up is that weekend too. This definitely cuts into it then.I'm officially not buying my yearly case of MOAS because of this. Definitely disappointed, but with the Transient re-up and party right around the corner and Black Friday it was an easy call.
I'm sure ABI/GI have been eyeing the $30-40 BA stout market (Bruery, FFF, etc) the last few years as well. Especially when they know BCBS is superior for the most part.Maybe it's all Inbev, but I'd be a little surprised if both Binny's and the distributor don't have in setting the pricing scheme.

I'm really hoping we get those details before Black Friday so I know what kind of budget I'm working with for Bourbon County. Buying zero bottles from The Bruery this month given the crap ass options certainly helped.
Jesse Valenciana (Goose Island):A few thoughts before we start, this year’s Bourbon County is more mellow than in years past because of the crazy weather we had last year. It was the first time ever that we had to turn heaters on in the barrel warehouse because of those -40 degree days. As a result, the barrels weren't contracting as much as in past years and we ended up with almost a full percentage point lower in ABV than we had in 2013's release.
Matt Tanaka: Okay everyone, let's get started. What are you initial thoughts?
Collin Moody: This is great. It’s a lot more berry-forward this year. A lot more fruity.
Pat Brophy: Very ripe. I think the berry thing is spot on. Definitely some of that berry character. I think it’s not as much of that oak-y vanilla, as in year’s past. There’s a hint of it there but in years past it’s beer slapping you with that bourbon barrel character. It’s not as roasty as I thought it would be this young. I hate using the word “smooth” to describe a beer but this is a smooth beer, man. I mean, this is impressive.
Kim Leshinksi: Definitely some dark dried fruit. Not a bright sweetness but a nice fig, raisin, dried cranberry. I’m getting molasses, some nice rich, dark molasses flavor. I agree with earlier comments on the astringency, the roastiness holds up but it just finishes so nice and rounded and sweet. It’s a little bit different from what I expected.
Chris Kolodziej: It’s much more muted in flavor than years past. It also kind of has like a malted milk ball quality, like a malt ice cream which I really like. It has the quality of a malt ball.
Collin: I’m surprised by the body this year, it’s not as thick and viscous as in years past. It’s been almost oppressive in the past, you feel like you’re chewing your beer. This year it’s graceful and light.
Pat: This is the 1% milk to last year’s whole milk.

Up until a two years ago I could still find 13, 14 and 15 turding it up. This is just getting so out of hand.

I hope you're right cuz it's one of my favorite aspects about BCBS and why it's so hard to find another to compare it to.I highly doubt this.
I'm sure it'll still be good, but I'll probably only buy two 4-packs to start with just to see. I can't really imagine there being a difference between 15% and 14% when just a few years ago it was down to 13% and tasted just as good.

I don't think any of this is as bad as Buffalo Grove Binny's putting limit 1 on Dreadnaught and War Mullet.To be fair though, a lot of people that went ape over it are just people that had it at a bar once (or a million times) and liked it. The Deth's Tar, Surly Eight and FW 18 **** is much more alarming.
That's entirely InBev's doing. At the King Henry release- which happened a few months after the InBev announcement- I talked to John Hall for a while. I asked how the transition was going, any surprises, etc. and he said that the only thing they didn't expect was the emphasis on accurate ABVs. They just put 13% on it for years because that's about what it would come out to, but InBev said they had to start giving more accurate numbers to minimize questions from Federal Weights and Measures groups. They're still probably pretty inaccurate given the variation you can get from barrel to barrel, but it also explains why years like last year have different ABV numbers associated with different bottling dates.I was kind of assuming that GI just kept printing labels with 13% without verifying each year's batch was actually 13% and then with the AB InBev deal they started being more diligent about labeling. Seems odd that for years it just happened to be the same ABV...
