I mean it's kind of shocking if you work in beer in Chicago but haven't heard of a brewery that is older than this website is that has medaled at FOBAB for three years in a row. I mean I've probably had like 4 beers ever from them but to never have even heard of them was pretty surprising. I guess at this point we're going to need a full Gonzoillini visit post. Is there a patreon for that yet? "Send Tony to review breweries so you don't have to"

I work in a taproom for a brewery I love, I honestly don't pay much attention outside of the city. I'm familiar with the larger ones like Penrose, Imperial Oak and Solemn Oath, I meet a bunch of different brewers from all over the Midwest and states every weekend I work at The Trap. It's hard to keep up no matter how old and established they might be...

Haha...I live in my 2 mile radius bubble, outside of my occasional Marz pop-ins the farthest I travel is to work downtown from Logan. I'm familiar with Kinslahger only because my oldest friend and former roommate lives a block over by Euclid Park and I'm only in Oak Park visiting him or my family.

Speaking of suburban breweries, middlebrow do you know if Solemn Oath got past the zoning board or pulled out of the location across the street? I was at Food Smart last evening and noticed the signs were no longer in the window...
Noticed it too...no idea but they’re on the local brewery showcase at ipsento so yr guess is good as mine.

Checked out the sneak peek of Werk Force Brewing Company's new production brewery and taproom on Saturday evening, and came away really impressed by the new space. Lots of seating, wide open space that will be super conducive to future growth, and a great initial taplist for the pre-grand opening weekend.

Congratulations to Brandon and Amanda who are some of the nicest folks in IL beer.

I mean if it’s contract beer thing than what bout karetas?

They only make beer in small quantities, so their quality is better than everyone else's, so maybe they're included so everyone else looks legit, allowed to bask in the glow of their incredibly finite and detailed processes, finally ushering in an era of Quality by the likes of which we've never seen.

You should be honored to be in the same guild tbh.

Are you on “The List” yet or what?

I want Gonzoillini to review Roaring Table in Lake Zurich and Flesk in Barrington

Merely one review, but '18 Ryeway doesn't hold a candle to '17. To be fair, pre-17 didn't compare either. I was hopeful last year was the new norm, though.

I liked Ryeway 18 > Ryeway 17.

Also thought VSOJ was better than anything else tonight at Brixies (Deths Tar, Vanilla Deth, Cafe Deth, Ryeway to Heaven, Gravedigger Billy) by a far margin.

I would be glad to stand in line for 18 Ryeway or Vanilla Deth tomorrow if anyone is looking to unload the rest or their 17 Ryeway...

I should mention, the "F" was not a grade here. It's still a solid beer.

Interesting to read the head brewer refer to 17 Ryeway as a "happy accident". Whatever happened, I hope they can replicate it at some point in the future, and it's not a thing like where Bell's can't remember how they made BA9K.
