Trick question. I never stop at Transient.

i know you fibs go to SW MI a lot--what's a good place for lunch if we're planning on stopping at transient this weekend? anything great close by?
I don't care for the Bridgman Haymarket location overall. The pizzas are just okay. Although I haven't been there, every time I see pictures from Bridgman Meat Market that thewimperoo mentioned I regret never going.

Soeaking of pizzas, I used to LOVE EH Local in New Buffalo, and I heard they were relocating and reconcepting as a pizza place in Three Oaks. Unsure if they are open, but they were planning to still locally source meats and house make the pepperini and sausage for the pizzas, and while I am not a fan of Transient, Journeyman IS a fun stop (and RIP Pleasant House Three Oaks.) Haymarket Bridgeman is okay. Other places I prefer, but good for a change up. Anyway, tossing that out as a potential stop assuming they are open or maybe by summer.

I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but the Corridor burger is really good. Dropped in at 9:30 last night for the Monday special -- $15 for burger, pint, and a shot. Added some Belgian beer cheese on the side for the fries. Had the Van Hazen 1984, another solid NE from them. Will definitely be back.

are haymarkets pizzas below average based on comparison to chicago & surrounding suburbs pies or in comparison to SW michigan (have you tried Roma :confused::confused:)? I'd argue based on a 20 mile stretch, its probably in top 5 (and I'd negate villa nova in new buffalo because thats an expat) until you talk stop 50 in michigan city. wait, is this talkpizza.com?

Journeyman brunch is amazing. Their gin barrels are awesome too :D

Stop 50 or whatever is pretty decent. And for the record, while it’s getting pretty far east. Dark Horse does a better Chicago party cut than most Chicago pizzarias. And they have reinstated breakfast pizzas, which makes my life. Their biscuits and gravy pizza is heaven..

What is sad about Haymarket is they are now making the same just okay pizzas downtown now.

lurchingbeast I should clarify that I actually enjoy barrel aged Neckbeard Nectar. Buckley/Kentuckley are alright. But every time someone hands me one of their sour/funky beers it is not my thing. Lots of people like Side Project, too, and I have the same reaction. I just have a bunch of places in that area I would rather go.

I don't care for qualifiers. Haymarket's pizza is 'just okay'. Their taplist sucked when I was there and the setup to get beer and food is dumb as ****. If they are busy the place is a nightmare. There are so many better options in western Michigan that I probably won't be back unless Gonzoillini makes me.

Yeah... I had not been there in ages, was surprised to see that they redid their menu as a pared down version of a mashup between the old menu and the Bridgman menu. I ended up splitting an eote pizza with a friend and getting something that was real food but I forget what. It was fine for a Wednesday in the loop, but I miss the old menu.

In Haymarket news, Mini Mathias is really really good. Between that and Clare's Thirsty I had a pretty killer visit there for the Clare's release.

thanks for all your help and non-help everyone. bridgman meat market or journeyman sound like good options. i'm going to FFF on the way home so i only need one leg of advice.

Oh this isn’t the first time, and it won’t be the last. At least I am consistent in my unpopular opinions.

Better late than never, here are some shots I took from the Life After Deth event a couple of weeks back at Revolution Brewpub.

Food was generally really good, the beer was delicious, and there were lots of familiar faces to enjoy the evening with while drinking / eating. Learning that Straight Jacket this year is 2/3 Straight Jacket and 1/3 VSOJ was pretty neat, and that VSOJ will be canned in October 2018 was even better.

I was also a huge fan of the Wilsonrobot Pale Lager to cut the sweetness of drinking barrel aged barleywine all evening, and hoping that one stays in the rotation in the future.

Well done beeraficionado on a great event, and hoping to see more of these in the future.

I think it holds up against the "best" burgers in the city, without a doubt.

Oh nice, glad you dug it. Wilsonrobot was named after the handle of our best Caviar (Brewpub Delivery Service) customer who orders from us nearly every day. We made the recipe based off the beers he seemed to like best (Cross of Gold, Rev Pils, Viva, etc.). It's also the first time we've used corn in a beer.

Whistle Stop is generally really good (if they're open)
