I mean, there were CCBW events in Mokena. It sort of always ways ILCBW. It was also never a very good craft beer week.

i dunno about never. the first couple years when places would actually do special tappings or cool events like goose island's minigolf thing were dece. later it just became a flood of "hey check out our $4 lagunitas ipa special" events

I don't think my gripe about CCBW was ever in regards to branding or what days of the week it was or it's length or on and on and on..

...My gripe was the events themselves when stacked up against other major cities.

And then later the price of the "focus" events. Or maybe not even the cost per say but the cost/benefit.

It’s never been a thing people come to town for. And it’s not like ICBG doesn’t know how to do that. People have come to down in droves for years for FoBAB. BUG will never be FoBAB. Hell, the fact that Haymarket throws a mini-FoBAB during CCBW says something..... this is dumbfuck politicized nonsense. FFF backed DLD all the way into CCBW amd ICBG is like “yeahhhh we’re not doing that anymore.”

Yeah there were always cool events here or there but nothing on the scale of San Francisco or Philadelphia. The usual 3 "must attend" events gets pretty old.

They should break it down into neighborhoods. "Logan Square Craft Beer Week" and then "Humboldt Craft Beer Week" the very next week. We could have an entire summer of craft beer weeks.

****, DLD should be the closing event for Chicago(land) Craft Beer Week.

Posted this on the other channel- my review of the Central Waters XX Anniversary Party. Thought it would be of interest to those who don't frequent those parts anymore:

Had some time with a long drive home to process the event. Sentiments echo a bit about what has already been covered, but wanted to add some thoughts in the event CW perhaps looks to improving future parties.

Quick background - have gone to all Anny events back to 15. The event itself really hasn't been the focus for our group, more like the icing on the cake and historically fun for a few hours across the weekend. Out of all the events (and yes this includes the cluster that was Fifteen) this was, without a doubt, the worst of the parties that we have attended. Apologize for the length:

Positives
- Volunteers were doing everything they could to stem the flow of crazy from the merch table to the draft pours - great job
- Line to get in was run very well and went quickly (with no line about an hour and a half into the event it appeared)
- Line to get bottles (at least when we went just after 4) was fantastic and literally took about 30 seconds to pay, grab bottles, and go
- Merch table and bottled beer sales tables were both great, set off to the side without lines, etc. Good to see the bottled beer sales back again with no lines and in a relatively easy to access area.

Unfortunately, everything else about the event was...not great.

Room for Improvement
- When you walk into an event, seeing wasted and destroyed 'VIPs' (yet again) starts everything off on the wrong foot. Psychologically, walking into an event (AT LONG LAST WE ARE IN AWESOME) and being instantly greeted with a crowded gauntlet of 'VIP/vendor/friends of CW' folks who always, year after year, appear to be drinking for the first time just sets the wrong tone right off the bat. CW, if you are listening, please stop this practice and hold a separate event with these folks the night before, or at some other time to say thanks. They are not representative of the rest of the beer community coming to this event, and an extra 3-4 hours of high gravity beer (at no cost I believe?) on top of the rest of the party is always a recipe for disaster.
- It has been said, but there were far too many people inside. I don't know how to judge exactly what the limit is to make it not seem 'oversold' but the event was uncomfortably crowded.
- The vending of the beers from the one small trailer set in the middle of the space was clearly, just, a very bad idea. Not the first time for this I don't understand why this is constantly an issue. Tickets were only accepted at the one vending area, not at the bar, not for a pour of XX, etc. and as a result, what are people going to do when there is a (OMG! RAR) timed tapping and they are biding their time inside? Exactly what they did, and form a huge cluster of a crowd in the middle of the event to get pours and try and use their tickets.
- Speaking of the timed tappings, the vanilla, blackberry, and boysenberry beers were just, there is no way to state this elegantly...they were just awful. Vanilla was straight vanilla extract poured into a blending tank and the fruited options were just a complete mess. I say this because if this is what CW is thinking about putting into bottles for next year, that makes the decision of going to XXI pretty easy, unfortunately.

Overall, here's hoping there are some good lessons learned for CW.

ADDENDUM: We did a completely blind tasting of all Anny beers plus Ardea, Maple, and Black Gold 2016. Here were our results to anyone interested:

17, Ardea, 16, 18, 14, 20, 15, 19, Black Gold, Maple.

17 blew us all away. If you're sitting on a bottle or two, bring that baby out because it is drinking AMAZING right now. 17 was as good as the Maple was bad. Unanimous opinions on the best and worst of the bunch out of the 10 bottles.

Love rev, but idk if you can give sole credit to them as there have been a few breweries across the country doing this
Yeah, I remember Oskar Blues was pushing the can thing for a long time before it really picked up steam elsewhere. Cans of Ten Fiddy were an odd novelty for a long while.
