How did you somehow extrapolate the actual words I said to “people without social media are **** out of luck.”

You said you won’t promote events here in this forum/thread. Where else would they get this information?

between rev, half acre, dovetail/metro, and off color - all beer needs satisfied

Hoping HA starts canning more of their lagered projects now that they have more ability to brew them
The last couple draft pils were more enjoyable than Pony
I just want all the dovetail. Also your basement is creepy.

Most businesses have fully public social media pages (or should have, if they are smart). In other words, you don't have to have an account yourself in order to view their Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/etc/etc. So I don't think one can really argue that people "without" a social media presence can't get information - it might be a little harder to pay attention and actively seek it out, but you can still do it.

If nobody told lurchingbeast what was going on in beer. You could only find him and pasta at sleezy nudie bars that have breakfast buffets

Please explain to me again how TalkBeer isn’t social media. What are we doing here again?

Re: Publican(s). Show up any day of the week (if you can get a table), eat tasty meats and drink tasty beers.

Occasionally there is a special event where you can eat even tastier meat. Please have another offal dinner, thx.

I'm going to run my future beer/mead/gin radler club only on FetLife. Then you'll see. THEN YOU'LL ALL SEE.

I personally can see it both ways. On one hand, almost every brewery/beer establishment has a mailing list - throw your email on it and you'll get notified of so many events that you'll start to hate every brewery in town.

On the other hand, there's a fuckton of breweries/beer bars/cool restaurants in the city and if one was to subscribe to every mailing list, how in the hell would they be able to poke through all of the beer mail to get to the oh-so-vital "hot singles near you" emails?

I kind of like coming here and finding out about events because I feel like this group does a damned good job at curating itself to the point where most promotors know not to come here with ******** like "$4 Daisy Cutter Cans every Thursday!" and are instead promoting really cool stuff that I'd have no idea about otherwise.

Obviously, there's a very fine line to walk between quality promotion and downright spam, but I more than trust the brewery reps/industry folk who post here to know the difference, and that defintely invludes vav also. I don't think any readers of this particular thread would balk at the idea of knowing about Publican events, especially since I'm sure that anything Vav deemed worthy of posting here would be "straight fire" in the parlance of our times.

And vav has posted some token juicy nuggets here. Rhubarb tart, a special keg here and there. He isn’t leaving ole TB out to dry, just not posting every new keg or special event that goes on. And that’s okay. The more curated approach helps pick through the gads of events all over all the time.

I'd like postings from Vav on here, or anywhere regarding noteable things at the Publican joints. Publican/Anker/PQM facebook and twitter feeds are desolate. People here are hungry for good information from trusted keepers of the local beer community.

Industry users that are engaging with the community here, generally don't come across as hucksters.

How about we talk about the fact that Maplewood's taproom opens Friday and Spiteful's taproom opens Saturday. Meanwhile I haven't even made it to Metro, Mousetrap, or Balmoral yet.

Don't feel too bad, if I didn't work at The Mousetrap, I don't think I'd ever really go to a taproom. EDIT: I do enjoy Metro's and have been 3x total mostly for Heliostat. I for one have never really enjoyed just hanging out in a taproom unless with a large group of folks, after trying a few things I am usually ready to bounce...

Venue website/phone/flyers/email newsletters/word of mouth/other forums/press/etc etc etc.

This is so ridiculous.

If you don't want to read about a FIB brewery's events in the FIB topic go start a He-Man Woman Haterz Club for all the other breweries you want to discuss?

It absolutely IS ridiculous. This seriously isn't a big deal. I thought i elucidated my point quite clearly, but i guess i'll do it again: I am of the opinion that it's weird when breweries/bars/whatever dip into enthusiast forums and promote stuff. I get the direct marketing aspect of it, and i'm not saying these businesses shouldn't have a presence or anything: They should. But...

...This. I think you guys would be whistling a very different tune if every other post in this thread was a brewery rep or bar saying "Hey guys wanted to let you know we're releasing CIRCLE ONE: Pastry Stout/Hazy IPA/Kettle Soured Fruit Ale." The signal to noise level would be dynamically different. It's no sleight against Rev or anything like that, but like i said earlier, i view this as your thread, not mine, and i participate as an enthusiast 99% of the time for that reason. Ya dig? It's totally cool to disagree here, it's just an opinion-based disagreement. It's a much ado about nothing.

I went for Maplewood's soft open on Saturday, it's a lovely space, the whiskey is great, and it's right next to Frank & Mary's.

Eh, fair enough. Like i said, much ado about nothing.
