I don't understand... are they waiting for the beer to arrive or does Capone's just liking making people stand around their store like doofuses?

http://solemnoathbrewery.com/news/introducing-the-old-order/

Since our first batch at Solemn Oath, we’ve been putting beer into wood. It’s something we are dedicated to and we’ve been working hard to develop a program to better share this passion with you SOBs. Each year we’ve brought more variety to the lineup and each year we’ve expanded the capacity of our barrel program. Now we’re ready for the next step.

In the past, SOBs have only been able to drink our wood-aged offerings on draft at either the taproom or craft-focused #oathspots around Chicagoland. We’ll be changing this and bottling our wood-aged beer in very small quantities for the first time.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"Numbered “The Old Order” key tag to verify your membership to SOB staff for pickups, discounts, and other privileges."

This might make it worthwhile...

I've known him since grade school. He and his wife are still together. Still not sure what caused the worlds smallest violin post. Also, that's not his haul. He put together several peoples hauls to take that picture to rustle the collective facebook jimmies.

Now I look like an ASS

Anyway I've met him and he seems cool.

There was one called Elijah that I think Laffler made before his exit that was absolutely amazing.

Did a 09-15 BCS vertical last night, which isn't a great idea if you are fighting a cold. For anyone else who has ever done this I'd love to get your take. I couldn't believe how little variation I could pick up across the years and the beer was just consistently awesome save for maybe 2013 which was a little lesser.

John never worked at Clybourn, you're thinking of Jared...

Few years back, did a 2006-2012 (current at the time) vertical, and I've done 11/12/13 and 12/13/14 since then. There's definitely a variation, although it's gotten smaller over the years.

Some of the variation comes down to what's more forward that year... chocolate, smoke, barrel, roast, etc. More of the variation just comes down to how time affects the beer. Like, I remember 13 being "hot" when it first came out, but it had smoothed out nicely over by the time 14 came around. This year, 12 had lots of sherry going on, which may mean the cap got compromised or that the beer is in an awkward stage.

With older vintages, I definitely noticed a fall off in flavor. Not so much bad, just... faded. Those older bottles were also back in the days of the original labels... I can't remember if they still used screw-off caps then.

I'm curious as to what reference GI uses when blending. Whether it's written notes on the ideal BCS or if they blend to taste differently each year.

It's only $19.50, but still HARD PASS

$175 for 9 bottles.

Saw the $40 all inclusive ticket on Instagram, figured it was per bottle. Not sure what the $40 gets you.

I think thewimperoo was talking about the SOB beer club, and my guess is that GI means Cherry Run will be $40 inclusive of tax. I'll be passing on both, but might drink some Cherry Run on tap if I get a chance.

Laffler and Korder did a talk at Beer Temple a few years back about blending (still the best beer "event" I've ever been to) where they described the system they used at the time. Basically they ranked barrels 1 to 3 (3 being best) and made notes for each. Then blended to taste. No idea how it works anymore, but the worry that the InBev buyout would hurt the (regular) beer has been a non-issue.
