Umm... You do know what goes on in vans like that, don't you? A friend who grew up during the 60's told me all about it.

I think so- that's why I want to do it! :rockin:

I'm not wild about bubblegum Belgian's either. You know, when I started brewing I started expanding my beer horizons, trying all sorts of styles and brewing them. After a few years, I started narrowing my choices again and choosing mostly IPAs and APAs. I still appreciate a great robust porter, or well made pilsner, but I reach for my favorite hoppy styles almost instinctively.

I also don't contribute to threads of "weird" beers like those of the new brewer who want to make a chocolate marshmellow fluff peanut butter stout. I just think "ugh, just because you can doesn't mean you should".

In competition several years back, there was a non-BJCP stout category. I judged a French onion soup stout (that gushed), a Rosemary Stout (tasted like lamb roast), and raisin cookie stout (ick). I'm sure the brewers loved being creative and I tried to appreciate it- but it was all pretty gross.

Hey now... you make it sound like lamb is baaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

The 27-window bus - That's the holy grail of VWs right there.

Probably worth a few hundred K.

This one goes to 45.

I've been exploring Belgian ales lately & last week I got one that had some pretty strong bubblegum flavor, got to admit, I'm not a fan of bubblegum flavored beer.
Regards, GF.

Is that flavor coming strictly from one ester specifically, or a combo of a couple? I'm not a huge fan of it either, but my wife loves them. I complained about some brews when I first got started having that flavor, but she couldn't even taste it until she tried some saisons.

I wish I took a pic at Masstoberfest when you were offered a berliner weisse. Now that was an expression :fro:

I'm certain that I simply said, no thank you.

Plus, It was like 30° out that day. I might've said yes to a French onion soup stout ( assuming it was nice and hot ). before having a summer drink. Weren't you wearing shorts that day?

I came directly off the golf course. Of course I was wearing shorts! I think you did have a couple in you because you didn't want a cup but took a sip out of my mine for a sample. I was happy just to find a tester. I wasn't going to be the first guinea pig on a gift from Cape to Paulie. That would just be crazy. I was watching for any ill effects before I indulged.

The worse one was Mort and he's from NH!!!!! He was ready for the Arctic.

Oh, that's right! I went up to a random stranger and took a sip of beer right out of their cup. Of course, I've been known to do that so I forgot about it until just now. And it WAS a Berliner Weiss. Ah, yes, I remember it well.

Mort had an extra toque, so I stayed warm in your frigid climate. He found it in the back of the truck, under the seat, and he apologized for the unclean state. I didn't care! I put that on my head immediately and was thankful for it. And you were in shorts- I will never forget that. And you people think I'm crazy.

I'm not sure, I'd guess more than 1, but I'm still new at Belgian ales & could be mistaken about that. I know it depends on the yeast strain & fermentation temps as to whether you get bubble gum, clove or banana flavors. I've yet to get one tasting of clove, might be interesting.
Regards, GF.
