Hi All,

Creating a recipe for a barleywine and never gone up to 9%abv so far and as I'm adding malt to my recipe, the abv stopped incrementing after 10%. Is there a reason for that?

Cheers,

With the release of BeerSmith 3, the maximum %ABV for a recipe was established by the yeast strain in the recipe. If no yeast is stated, it defaults to 10%. This had been requested by users years back and finally put into the program.

yes it was my yeast config that was set to 10%... thank you all

I should have also added that I would double check the properties in BeerSmith for the yeast against the manufacturer specifications. In many cases, these ingredients were added years ago and have not been updated to match manufacturer updates. That actually applies to all the ingredients, not just the yeast.
