Imagine the horror of realizing that come Thursday morning you're going to wake up and you'll still be in West Buttfark, Canada, married to an Eskimo, you have a hockey club made up of Nancys and the Stanley Cup is going to be in Boston for the next year.

You can almost see why they tipped a few cars over and got a little carried away.

Congratulations to the Boston Bruins. They deserved to win the Cup. I don't believe anyone ever wins it without earning it. As far as luck goes, for the most part, you create your own breaks.

Now something I care more about. I don't know how or why the good name of the Detroit Red Wings is being dragged through mud here (supposedly by one of their own fans) but the run has not come to an abrupt end. They have had 2 dissapointing playoff runs in consecutive years, that is all. By the way, that was after consecutive finals appearances. Holland is a master of reloading and this year he has money to play with. I expect a big free agent splash to be made on the defensive side.

They don't need a back up goalie, Joey Mac is fine. In fact some nights he is better than Howie. No matter who is in net they need a defense in front of them because this year it was terrible.

People make too big a deal about the age thing. A few older players (don't forget one is still one of the best in the league at his position) really skew those numbers.

There are some changes to be made for sure but Detroit will be back next year pushing 100 points and there is still enough leadership on that team to pass the torch to a new captain when Lidstrom finally does retire (please not this year).

Maybe I have rose colored glasses, I don't care, but I don't see the Winged Wheel having trouble competing anytime soon. The only thing I'm unsure of is which conference they will be dominating when the whole realignment thing gets sorted out.

So now what do I do in the off season. Not only is there no hockey to follow, but this year I don't even have a local team...I guess I'll have to keep track of the Sabres moves in the off-season.

Not necessairly. It depends what day you're going by. If it was last night, it'd be June 16th, 2001 to June 15th, 2011. If you wanted to be really picky, you could factor in the time too, but at that point it doesn't make a huge difference.

No. That is the difference between "a decade" and "THE decade". THE decade always ends in a zero.

Now that is some funny **** right there. I do like their national anthem tho. And SCTV (is that still on?)

Against all odds the Succos are 2 games over .500 right now heheh. I hate the summer tho. I am a big guy, I sweat. Give me the Steelers and shortly after Crosby and Malkin back on the ice.

One thing that perplexes me about pictures of the Vancouver riots...where are all the females? Looks like a huge sausagefest...no wonder they're all angry. The Boston "riots" looked more like Mardi Gras than anything. lol

And yet they couldn't dispose of the Sharks, a YOUNGER mirror image of themselves.

Their defensive core is done, Rafalski gone, Lidstrom all but done. I love the youngsters, but their still the oldest team in the NHL. Don't get me wrong, we still make the playoffs, but you just don't win without a monster defense or a stellar goalie, of which we have none.

Valid points, but if they Wings were smart, they'd grab a younger, yet veteran player to replace Rafalski. Lidstrom may be nearly done, but he's still tons better than pretty much anyone else on any given night. I didn't see Joey Mac as that great. He won a couple and lost a couple and didn't look good in the losses. Maybe he'll be better this year after seeing some NHL ice time. They have another goalie in the system but I can't remember his name.

They need defensemen who can deliver the puck out of their own zone instead of making stupid passes that get picked off. We have a couple of players who tend to think about sending the puck down for a odd man rush or something.

Free Press is talking about singing Jaromir Jagr. I'm not a fan. He's been in the KHL for a couple of years and he's getting old. We need to get the young guys in the system playing. It was forward roullette for most of this season as it is.

Sig worthy. :)

Wikipedia:

Boston became the second city to have all four of its major professional sports league teams play in the league championship finals at least once since 2000, following Philadelphia .

Boston became the first city in the 21st Century to have all four of its major professional league teams win a league championship in a single decade, and it is the only city ever to have championships in all four major professional leagues within a ten-year span (from the Patriots' victory in February 2005 to the Bruins' in June 2011)

Never in the same year, but 2 cities have before: (But we did it in less than a decade)

New York did it first,

World Series 1923
Stanley Cup 1927-28
Superbowl 1969
NBA Finals 1970

Chicago was the second,

World Series 1906
Stanley Cup 1933-34
NBA Finals 1947
Superbowl 1986
