I bought something on ebay on feb 9th, used paypal which took the money out of my account immediately. The seller says that paypal holds on to the money for 5 business days before depositing it in his account. Is this true? The seller wont ship my item untill this 5 day period is up, which is pissing me off. Am i just paranoid or am i getting ripped?

Interesting...I get messages that the transaction, payment and receipt, occurred almost immediately.

As a seller? Ive never sold anything, only bought stuff.
But yeah the money was out of my account instantly. Ive heard people talking ****e about paypal, I never new why...But im not a seller. Ill give this guy the benefit of the doubt but, Teusday if he didnt ship then Im gonna file a dispute.

Maybe that's how paypal's making their money; couple days of float, on a large amount of transactions, will add up pretty quickly.

I used to run a big ebay store and Paypal is usually instant if the funds were in the Paypal account. If you used an eCheck then it usually takes up to 5 days to clear.
Check their feedback, if they have a lot and mostly positive don't worry. By using Paypal you most likely are covered in case of fraud.
Post the link to the sellers page and I can help you out.

I used my debit card and it was instant from my account. The thing that worries me is the seller has zero feedback. This was his first sale. Reading paypal they say something to the effect if you dont have a business account then you can only recieve 500 bucks per month? Im not sure what account this guy has, but he is verified. He sounds like an idiot to me. He never emailed confirmation and he finally called me 4 days later and acted like it was no big deal. (i sent him many emails and sent a no-contact dispute and he was like, "Yeah I got your emails" but he never responded)) Im gonna call him tommorow to find out whats up, tommorow will be 5 business days so he should have no more excuses.

Actually they take something like .02 from the transaction. I don't remember the exact amount, but remember them tsking their cut when I sold stuff on ebay. Same goes for itunes, they uually debit my account for the cost of the music, plus something like .02. :(

This sounds a little shady to me. It could just be because the guy is a new seller and doesn't know what he's doing. But, I've bought and sold on ebay using paypal and the transaction was always instant. The fact that he didn't contact you until you filed a dispute would worry me some but, either way if you payed through paypal you're covered through them. You should definitely get a tracking number from him when he ships. And, try to communicate only via email that way if you have to continue your dispute you'll have everything he said to you in writing. I just went through a dispute with a buyer that decided not to pay and ebay was very helpful.

I think the seller is confused about how paypal works. The money transfers from your paypal account straight away - either from funds in your paypal or a few days later by Direct Debit from your bank account etc. The seller then has the funds in his Paypal account. However if he then wishes to transfer those funds into his bank account to use as 'cash' it takes 5 working days for the funds to clear. Maybe he want's the 'cash' in his hand before he ships?

Yeah thats exactly what happened...I called him today and I told him that according to paypal hes got the money, and he agreed and said when he logs onto paypal his account shows the money but when he logs onto his bank his account is still at zero.

I felt like saying, "thats not my problem you cant get the money", because its not really, but apparently he is too broke to ship the item without the money.

What a 'tard.
