I have been absent on HBT for a little while. I have not done a whole lot of brewing. The hobby doesn't really pay off in the long run but I still love to do it.

I have 3 gallons of wine ready to be racked tomorrow and peppers drying for hot sauce. I am not really sure what the point of this post is.

I'm confused by the part of your post that says, "The hobby doesn't really pay off in the long run..."

Is there some grammar issue? I just can't seem to wrap my mind around that sentence. Just doesn't seem to make sense to me...
