I will be fabricating an open grant today. I will keep posting my progress. It will be 400 mm in diameter. Here is the bottom and the lid cut out . Next step is to put a knuckle on the bottom.

I'm making this at work so I have a machine that can knuckle but you could use a buffalo hammer. Next I fit the bottom to the shell. I also included a picture of what it should look like when complete.

So, how did you "knuckle" it?
Hammer form?
Rubber form?

I apologize. i should have explained this better. It's hard without a video. You can actually just start the "knuckle" or bend with just a pair of pliers. just to get a start to the bend. Once you have the material bent up slightly you can start using a buffalo hammer to finish it off. The material is only 16 gauge so it bend fairly easy. Just remember to cut your original circle about 16mm bigger then your intended final diameter. With the knuckle you will loose roughly 8mm per side.

Nice workmanship but why not just get a stock pot?

Buying a stock pot would be an alternative but the quality wouldn't be there and it would be made of an even thinner material then 16ga. It's also always cheaper to make it yourself.;

Confessing my ignorance... what is an "open grant"? Google let me down this time.[/QUO

An open Grant Is a Small pot which Is gravity fed from your mlt. They are good to help prevent a stuck mash. Since the mlt gravity feeds into the Grant and the the pump pulls from the Grant instead of the mlt. An open Grant Is the more traditional way to do This . Now alot of systems use an airless Grant which accomplishes the dame thing. I Can take a Picture of an airless Grant if You want to ses one.
